National Traditional Boat Racing Championship 2025

From August 12 to 22, at Da Bang Lake (Phuoc Trung village, Nghia Thanh commune, Ho Chi Minh City), a vibrant sporting atmosphere promises to prevail when the National Traditional Boat Racing Championship and the National Youth, U21, U23 Canoeing Championship 2025 take place.

The 2025 National Traditional Boat Racing Championship is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Vietnam Boat Racing Federation, under the authorization of the Vietnam Sports Department.

This year's tournament gathered 780 coaches and athletes from 19 provinces and cities across the country, including: An Giang, Bac Ninh, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Lam Dong, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Military, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Tuyen Quang and Vinh Long. This is one of the practical activities to implement the Campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho", at the same time encouraging the movement of practicing water sports, preserving and promoting the traditional cultural and sports identity of the nation.

Not only is it a competition venue, the tournament is also an opportunity to test and evaluate the training and education of Canoeing and traditional boat athletes nationwide, thereby selecting outstanding faces to represent Vietnam at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. The event also contributes to improving the organization and management level of the referee team, and is an important preparation step for the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026.

In the Canoeing Championships for Youth, U21 and U23, athletes are divided into 3 age groups with a total of nearly 100 events. The U18 group (from 15 to 18 years old) has 32 events at distances of 1,000m, 500m and 200m for both men and women, with 2 types of Canoe and Kayak from K1, K2, K4 to C1, C2, C4. The U21 group has 31 events, in addition to single and double events, there are also mixed events, while the U23 group has 34 events, diverse in both boat types and technical and endurance challenges.

From August 20 to 22, the National Traditional Boat Racing Championship will take place with 18 events for men, women and mixed, in both 10-rower and 20-rower boats, over 3 distances of 1,000m, 500m and 200m. Athletes will go through qualifying rounds, semi-finals and finals in a promisingly dramatic and exciting atmosphere.

With a large number of young, high-quality athletes and a large-scale organization, the 2025 tournament is expected to create a strong boost for the Canoeing and Traditional Boat Racing movement across the country, while bringing beautiful competitions, meeting the expectations of a large number of fans.
