
Kate Festival of Khanh Hoa Province in 2025
Kate Festival - one of the major traditional festivals of the Cham people following Brahmanism - will be solemnly held in Khanh Hoa province from October 20 to 22, 2025 (the end of June and the beginning of July of the Cham calendar).
The opening activities of the Kate Festival will take place from 1:30 p.m. on October 20 with the procession of Po Inư Nưgar costumes from the Raglai people of Phuoc Ha commune to the temple in Huu Duc village, Phuoc Huu commune.
From 6:30 a.m. on October 21, the Council of Clergy and the Custom Board of Po Klong Garai, Po Rome towers and Po Inư Nưgar temple will simultaneously conduct traditional rituals: Costume procession ceremony, Temple - tower opening ceremony, Statue bathing ceremony, Costume donning ceremony and Great peace praying ceremony. On October 22, rituals and cultural activities will continue to be held in villages, clans and families of Cham Brahmans in the province.
The highlight of this year's Kate Festival is the special art program taking place at 7 p.m. on October 20 at Huu Duc village stadium, Phuoc Huu commune, along with many exciting cultural and sports activities. Among them, the highlight is the Cham writing contest with the theme "Bright handwriting - Preserving the Cham soul", folk games such as tug of war, sack jumping, water jars overcoming obstacles, and the exhibition - introduction of typical products of localities in the province at Po Klong Garai Tower area.
Kate Festival is an occasion for Cham people to commemorate the gods and ancestors who built and protected the village; and pray for favorable weather, bountiful harvests, a peaceful and happy life. This is not only a sacred religious activity but also a unique cultural event, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the Cham people in Khanh Hoa province, spreading the spirit of solidarity and pride in national identity in the community.
