Traditional festival celebrating the 157th anniversary of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc

From October 17 to 19, 2025 (26-28 of the 8th lunar month), An Giang province will organize a traditional festival to commemorate the 157th anniversary of the death of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1868 - 2025). This is an important cultural and historical event, demonstrating the nation's morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", and at the same time, it is an opportunity for the people of An Giang and tourists nationwide to remember the steadfast and indomitable hero - Nguyen Trung Truc.

The festival is organized to preserve and promote traditional cultural values, associated with local socio-economic development. At the same time, the activities in the festival are clearly oriented, ensuring compliance with State regulations on festival management and organization, aiming at the goal of building a healthy, humane cultural environment imbued with national spirit.

The festival is not only an occasion to commemorate the great contributions of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc - who left behind the immortal saying "When the West has pulled out all the grass in the South, then the South will no longer fight the West", but also an occasion to educate the tradition of patriotism and the spirit of fighting against foreign invaders for generations, especially the youth. Through lively activities, the festival contributes to widely propagating national sovereignty, protecting Vietnam's borders and islands in the current context, while honoring the role of the people - the subject of creation and preservation of cultural heritage.

A notable highlight of the festival is the promotion and honoring of the national intangible cultural heritage “Nguyen Trung Truc Communal House Festival – Rach Gia”. This activity not only demonstrates the responsibility of all levels and sectors in preserving intangible cultural heritage, but also contributes to raising public awareness of national cultural values, spreading the image of An Giang people as friendly, affectionate and loyal.

During the 3 days of the festival, there will be many rich and unique activities such as: Incense burning ceremony at the stele marking the place where Hero Nguyen Trung Truc was executed, the Great Flag raising ceremony, incense offering, the main altar, the back stage, the flower column parade, the unicorn - lion - dragon, along with folk singing and dancing performances, traditional martial arts performances...

In addition, the Southern Amateur Music Space, traditional martial arts tournaments for all ages, the An Giang Amateur Music Competition 2025 with the theme "Cultural Activities Week - New Rural Development 2025" and the Youth Theater Festival with the theme "The Spirit of National Heroes" promise to bring a vibrant atmosphere, imbued with the identity of the Mekong Delta river region.

The festival also combines many cultural - tourism - commercial activities such as: art photo exhibition "An Giang - Country - People", calligraphy exhibition, introduction of OCOP products and local specialties, general trade fair in 2025, along with investment promotion and tourism stimulus programs. All aim to promote the image of An Giang - a land rich in historical and cultural traditions and on the path of dynamic development.

The Nguyen Trung Truc Festival in 2025 is not only an occasion to pay tribute to a national hero, but also a cultural festival of the people of An Giang, a symbol of solidarity, patriotism and national pride. Thereby, contributing to preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritage, while promoting the development of tourism, trade and local socio-economic development, towards the goal of building An Giang increasingly rich, civilized and sustainable.
