To ensure electricity supply during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and its units are working closely with the National Power System and Electricity Market Operation Company (NSMO) to develop and implement a plan to ensure electricity supply for production and consumption, while also ensuring security, safety, and fire prevention.

EVN has issued a directive to its affiliated units to strengthen operational discipline, protect security and safety in the workplace, prevent fires and explosions, and promptly handle situations on the power system to ensure stable, continuous, safe, and reliable electricity supply; actively coordinate with local authorities, police, and military forces to develop and implement plans to protect security, order, safety, and prevent fires and explosions at power facilities, offices, warehouses, etc.
EVN and related units have proactively developed plans to ensure safe electricity supply and prevent fires and explosions; organized 24/7 on-call duty; and prepared personnel, vehicles, materials, and equipment to be ready to handle situations when power outages occur.
During the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Horse 2026: from 00:00 on February 14, 2026 (the 27th day of the Lunar year) to 24:00 on February 22, 2026 (the 6th day of the Lunar year), no power outages on the grid are required, except in cases where it is absolutely necessary to address an emergency.
Ensure that all necessary supplies, equipment, communication systems, and transportation are readily available to handle any incidents quickly; re-establish on-site operational shifts at unmanned substations if necessary.

Regarding the operation and dispatching of the power system, according to annual patterns and forecasts from the National Power Grid Management Agency (NSMO), the overall electricity consumption during the Lunar New Year holiday will decrease significantly - to only 50% to about 65% compared to normal days.
With electricity consumption dropping significantly during the Lunar New Year holiday, many power sources are forced to reduce output to match the low demand. To ensure safe and stable operation of the power system in all situations, the National Power Grid Corporation (NSMO) is required to maintain a minimum number of traditional power plants (such as coal-fired thermal power plants, gas turbines, hydropower plants, etc.) to ensure stable system operation and sufficient reserve capacity in case of power plant failures or potential fluctuations.
Therefore, when the load demand drops too low, traditional power sources have stopped/reduced output to their technical limits, yet the total power output still exceeds demand. This necessitates adjusting and reducing the power output from all types of power sources, including renewable energy sources (such as small hydropower, solar power, and wind power), to ensure the safe operation of the national power system.
EVN and its member units will continue to closely coordinate with NSMO and the regional power system dispatch centers in strictly implementing dispatch orders to ensure the safe operation of the national power system at all times.
Regarding electricity usage during Tet (Lunar New Year), EVN and its power companies advise electricity customers nationwide to ensure safe electricity use for people and equipment, prevent fires and electrical accidents at all times and in all places. In particular, they should absolutely avoid risks and violations of the power grid safety corridor (such as firing fireworks, flying kites, using sticks/poles near overhead power lines, etc.), which are both life-threatening and have a wide-ranging impact on the community's electricity supply.
