FTSE Russell highlights one factor that led to Vietnam's stock market officially being upgraded.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - FTSE highly appreciates the decision to allow foreign investors to conduct transactions through global brokers, and this will be an important part of the official announcement in April.

On the afternoon of February 5th, the State Securities Commission (SSC) held a meeting with FTSE Russell to discuss the progress of upgrading the Vietnamese stock market.

At the meeting, Ms. Vu Thi Chan Phuong, Chairwoman of the State Securities Commission, stated that the regulatory body is coordinating with the Ministry of Finance , the Government, and the State Bank of Vietnam to address market obstacles, focusing on perfecting the legal framework, improving transaction and payment infrastructure, developing new products, and creating more favorable conditions for foreign investors to participate in the market.

According to the Chairman of the State Securities Commission, the solutions being implemented are not only aimed at meeting the FTSE Russell upgrade criteria, but also at improving the operational quality and sustainability of Vietnam's capital market in the medium and long term.

On behalf of FTSE Russell, Managing Director Fiona Bassett praised Vietnam's reform efforts in recent times. She specifically noted that the issuance of Circular 08/2026/TT-BTC, which allows foreign investors to conduct transactions through global brokers, is a key element in FTSE Russell's market review in March, with results expected to be announced in April of the same year.

Besides the upgrade, the two sides also discussed the possibility of strengthening technical cooperation, including coordinating the development of new index sets and researching the expansion of index-linked products, thereby contributing to enhancing the depth and attractiveness of the Vietnamese stock market to international investors.
