This is the first university entrance exam of the 2026 admissions season nationwide, attracting nearly 17,000 registered candidates.
According to school statistics, the registration system recorded 16,940 successful candidates, a 22% increase compared to the first phase in 2025. Of these, approximately 2,000 candidates were 10th and 11th grade students, accounting for 12%, demonstrating the early interest of high school students in the exam.
The first TSA exam was held over two days, January 24th and 25th, with three testing sessions taking place at 28 testing locations in Hanoi and 10 provinces and cities including: Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, and Da Nang. The testing center with the largest number of candidates was at Hanoi University of Technology with 2,937 candidates; the testing center with the fewest candidates was in the Northwest region (Lao Cai) with 88 candidates.

Observations at the exam on the morning of January 24th showed that many candidates stated they participated in the TSA exam to increase their chances of university admission. Ngo Long Truc, a student from Gia Loc High School ( Hai Phong ), shared that he will use the TSA exam results in combination with his high school graduation exam scores and other methods to apply for university admission in 2026.
Some candidates felt the TSA exam was highly challenging, requiring stronger logical thinking and calculation skills than typical high school tests. However, many others considered the exam an opportunity to test their abilities and familiarize themselves with new admission methods.

Dr. Le Dinh Nam, Deputy Head of the Admissions and Career Guidance Department at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the university has upgraded its software, examination organization system, and computer labs to better meet the increasing demand for exam preparation from candidates. The structure of this year's exam and test papers remains stable, with content updated annually to align with the current general education curriculum, including many questions on current events.
From 2026, in the talent-based admission method under category 1.3, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will use TSA exam scores instead of academic scores from transcripts, which is considered one of the factors contributing to a significant increase in the number of applicants.

Currently, nearly 50 higher education institutions nationwide use the results of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology's aptitude test for admissions, mainly those in the fields of engineering, economics, law, and multidisciplinary studies.
According to the plan, the results of the first TSA exam of 2026 will be announced after about 10 days on the MyTSA system.
