A section of the revetment has been completed.

The anti-erosion embankment project has a total length of nearly 2 km, invested by the Lao Cai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project plays an important role in protecting the Son Ha residential area, Bao Thang commune, protecting the technical infrastructure system and stabilizing the Red River bank in the long term.

However, the implementation process encountered many difficulties, especially prolonged problems in site clearance and the impact of floods and rains that caused the entire embankment and service road to be flooded many times, interrupting construction.

Up to this point, many items are being focused on implementation, including: digging foundation pits and constructing concrete foundations at 85/164 units; constructing chopping walls 1, 2, 3 with the corresponding ratios of 76/164; 68/164 and 55/164 units; constructing rock gabions at 21/164 units; mass pile driving at 12/16 units.

Workers are actively completing auxiliary items for the embankment.

Mr. Hoang Van Hai - Deputy Head of Project 4, Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, said: Up to now, contractors have completed more than 40% of the project volume. However, the progress is slower than the contract due to problems with the site clearance at the beginning of the route and many large floods on the Red River. From May to November, the water level rose continuously, flooding the entire embankment and service roads, causing the transportation of materials and construction to be delayed for a long time.

According to Mr. Hai, the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board has reported to the Provincial People's Committee and proposed adjusting the project completion time to 2026 to suit actual conditions. Mr. Hai emphasized: The investor has asked the contractor to focus on human resources and work overtime to take advantage of dry weather days. Currently, there are 5-6 construction sites arranged in parallel with the goal of completing important embankment sections soon, ensuring safety before the next rainy season.

At the construction site, the forces of the 319 Corporation, Ministry of National Defense are making maximum efforts to speed up the foundation, wall and gabion projects.

Mr. Le Ngoc Trieu - technical officer, shared: We are concentrating on machinery, workers, taking advantage of favorable weather to complete the foundation and construct the embankment units. In the last days of the year, the unit continuously worked overtime to ensure the volume. Currently, we have constructed 20 more embankment units and are continuing to drive piles for the next locations.

The construction unit continues to drive concrete piles for the next revetment foundations.

Mr. Trieu added that the construction of the river embankment is under great pressure due to its dependence on water levels. Just one heavy rain can flood the foundation pit, embankment and service road, forcing a temporary halt and re-treatment of the site. Therefore, accelerating during the dry season is a key factor to ensure progress.

In addition to the weather factor, the project is also stuck at the first 170m of the route due to overlapping with the sand mine area of Vi Anh General Trading Company Limited. This is the main reason why the site handover is prolonged, and many items cannot be implemented in order.

The investor has proposed that the province allow the first section of the route to be cut and study the extension of the embankment downstream to ensure synchronization, compliance with planning and not increase the total investment.

Despite facing many difficulties, the investor and contractor affirmed that they will stick to the site and speed up to the maximum during the dry season months to soon complete the main embankment, ensuring safety for the residential area before the flood season in 2026.

The Red River embankment project through Bao Thang commune, when completed, will play an important role in stabilizing the riverbank, protecting infrastructure, reducing damage during the rainy and flood season, while creating urban landscapes and land for development along the route. This is a long-term disaster prevention project, helping people feel secure in living and producing, contributing to promoting local socio -economic development.
