Google announced the move on Thursday, noting that Gemini will begin rolling out to Android Auto users who have upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini on their phones.

By bringing Gemini to Android Auto, users can have natural conversations and back-and-forth to complete more complex tasks on the go, according to Google. Android Auto is an application that runs on the user's phone, communicating wirelessly and projecting features like navigation, music, and messaging from an Android smartphone onto the car's screen.

Gemini is deployed on Android Auto instead of Google Assistant.

The rollout isn't a surprise, as the change is part of Google's plan to replace Google Assistant with Gemini across all devices and platforms. The company announced in May that Gemini would be coming to Android Auto this year.

With Gemini, users can ask about businesses along their route to find specific information. For example, users can ask questions like, "Hey Google, I need your help. I'm craving barbecue. Are there any good places on my route that are open right now, near my destination?"

If a location looks interesting, Gemini can provide more information about it, such as details about the restaurant's most popular dish or whether the restaurant allows dogs.

Users can also reply to messages using Gemini and get a summary of the message. For example, you can ask Gemini to let a friend know you're stuck in traffic and add your estimated time of arrival to the message. Or, you can ask Gemini to translate the message into another language before sending it.

Gemini also lets users access emails in Gmail while driving. For example, users can ask questions like, "I've booked a hotel room for tonight. I think the address is in my email. Can you check and navigate to it?" Gemini can also give you a summary of unread emails.

Google notes that Gemini can help people find the right soundtrack for a road trip by asking it to create a playlist with specific instructions like: "Can you give me a playlist for a road trip? Ideally something upbeat, about 3 hours long, that's fun for me and the kids." The feature works with streaming services like YouTube Music, Spotify, and more.

Additionally, Google says users can chat directly with Gemini about any topic by saying, “Hey Google, let’s chat.” From there, you can bounce ideas off of them or learn something new.

For example, you might say, "Okay, I'm driving to St. Louis for a wedding. Can you be my tour guide and tell me some interesting facts about the place?" Then you follow up with, "Thanks for showing me all about St. Louis. Let's change the subject, the rehearsal dinner is at his parents' house, and I'd like to give them a little gift. Do you have any ideas?"

Gemini will begin rolling out globally on Android Auto on Thursday in 45 languages. To access the feature, you'll need to make sure you're using the Gemini app on your phone.

You'll see a tooltip on your car's display when this feature is available. To use it, you'll need to say "Hey, Google" and then press the microphone button on your car's display or press and hold the voice control button on your steering wheel.

Google announced the rollout of Gemini to replace Assitan on many devices.
