The highlight match of the fourth round of the Premier League took place at a high tempo and as predicted. Arsenal dominated, controlling the ball and pressuring the opponent in the first half. Meanwhile, Man Utd had opportunities from counter-attacks. Both teams scored goals thanks to the same style of play.
Kai Havertz was the name that was mentioned the most in the first 30 minutes of the match. Not long after missing a chance with an unbelievable shot, the German midfielder made a mistake that allowed Arsenal to concede.
Havertz disappointed.
From Havertz's failed pass, Man Utd counter-attacked and Marcus Rashford scored in the 27th minute. This was also the away team's first and only shot on target in the first half of the match.
Arsenal equalized immediately after the kick-off. The home team made an excellent combination on the left wing. Gabriel Martinelli put Martin Odegaard in a very favorable position for the Arsenal captain to score against Man Utd.
The game remained unchanged after the break. Arsenal continued to press but struggled against a very focused and compact defence. VAR saw a penalty overturned for the home side.
Man Utd patiently endured the pressure and waited for opportunities from counter-attacks. Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen had chances to come very close to scoring. New signing Rasmus Hojlund also caused many difficulties for Arsenal's central defenders in the disputes.
Man Utd are strong in counter-attacks.
Arsenal stepped up their attack in the final 15 minutes as Mikel Arteta made changes to his squad. However, the home side only created one clear-cut chance when Bukayo Saka's shot from a comfortable position in the box was saved by goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Attacking in a deadlock, Arsenal once again conceded a goal due to losing the ball in midfield, creating an opportunity for the opponent to respond. Alejandro Garnacho put Man Utd ahead in the 90th minute. However, VAR saved the home team when detecting an offside error by a Man Utd player.
Arsenal won dramatically.
The escape did not dampen Arsenal's determination to attack with all their might in the eight minutes of added time. The home team celebrated in the sixth minute of added time. No Man Utd player marked Declan Rice. The Arsenal midfielder, who cost over £100 million, shot off Harry Maguire's leg, leaving Onana unable to block at the near post.
That wasn't the last goal of the game. As Man Utd pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Arsenal finished off their opponents on the counter-attack. Fabio Vieira provided his fourth assist of the season as a substitute. Gabriel Jesus scored to seal a 3-1 win for Arsenal.
Result: Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd
Score
