The Spring Martial Arts Wrestling Tournament is both imbued with traditional values and combined with new martial arts that are in line with the trend and add richness to the tournament. This year is the 28th year the tournament has been held, with the aim of promoting the martial arts tradition and within the time frame of the Ha Nam Provincial Sports Festival 2025 - 2026, so the Spring Martial Arts Wrestling Tournament 2025 is considered the first competition of the disciplines, the content of which is included in the program of the 7th Provincial Sports Festival 2026. The tournament has 2 events: Wrestling and Jujitsu with the participation of nearly 200 athletes from 6 districts, towns, cities and the Provincial Martial Arts Federation.
In addition to the men's freestyle wrestling, women's freestyle wrestling and men's ethnic wrestling events, this year for the third time, the Organizing Committee continued to include Jujitsu in the competition with 4 events that Ha Nam athletes are good at: Jujitsu Newza No Gi for men and women and Jujitsu Newza Gi for men and women. Including Jujitsu events in the competition is also for localities to proactively prepare forces to develop the movement and aim for it to be an official competition in future sports festivals. This is also a way to select and supplement high-performance Jujitsu athletes for the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center. To evaluate the movement and preserve tradition, this year the Organizing Committee only awarded flags and first, second and third prizes for the entire delegation to those units that participated in both competitions and had the men's ethnic wrestling event.
Due to the movement, the sports factor and the large number of athletes, in 12 matches of 12 weight categories in the finals of No Gi for men and women and Gi for men and women, Thanh Liem district won 4 gold medals (HCV). In addition to Thanh Liem, Duy Tien and Phu Ly are two units with many developed martial arts clubs, so switching to No Gi and Gi for men and women is quite convenient because of similar techniques, so it is not surprising that Duy Tien won 3 gold medals and Phu Ly city won 2 gold medals. With the addition of Jujitsu events, Phu Ly city has eliminated the "lowland" when participating in the annual "Spring Martial Arts" Wrestling Tournament. The special thing this year is the competition in the congress content, so in order for large clubs and martial arts schools to participate and promote the movement, the Provincial Martial Arts Federation established a delegation, taking athletes from famous clubs and martial arts schools in the province to participate. Although the number of athletes participating was not large, the Provincial Martial Arts Federation still won 1 gold medal, equal to Kim Bang.
Also aimed at making localities more proactive in developing the movement and selecting athletes to participate in competitions, assessing the strength of the units, talented athletes of the Provincial Sports Training Center were not allowed to compete in the wrestling events for their districts as in previous years. The results confirmed that the units with real strength and inheritance have achieved high results and the units that have not been systematic, have not been sustainable, lack athletes and have limited results. This is clearly shown in the men's and women's freestyle wrestling events. This event only had 10 final matches, in which Thanh Liem won overwhelmingly with 5 gold medals. With these two events, this year Phu Ly surpassed Kim Bang and Binh Luc units, winning 2 gold medals. Kim Bang is still known as a unit with an advantage in women's freestyle wrestling because this unit has the support of the Wrestling Department coaches of the Provincial Sports Training Center, and the companionship of a number of schools with outstanding sports movements, but this year Kim Bang only won 1 gold medal, equal to Binh Luc.
Men's national wrestling competes in 4 weight categories, any unit that wants to compete for a ranking position and win the overall prize must have athletes registered to compete in one of the 4 weight categories of this event. With a large number of athletes, over 40 athletes, Thanh Liem has enough athletes in all 4 weight categories of the national wrestling event. Along with a strong force, Thanh Liem also has an advantage when Lieu Doi Wrestling Arena is invested in and built systematically, has Lieu Doi Wrestling Festival recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, the traditional wrestling festival of the commune is regularly organized and continuously hosts the "Spring Martial Arts" Wrestling Tournament for many consecutive years, so Thanh Liem national wrestling has no rival to usurp the throne. With this event, Thanh Liem this year continues to win 4 gold medals for 4 weight categories from 50 kg to over 65 kg. Participating in the national wrestling event are also the following units: Binh Luc, Phu Ly, Ly Nhan and the Provincial Martial Arts Federation. Binh Luc is famous for its Vu Ban wrestling camp. In previous years, after a period of no sponsorship from the district, the movement was somewhat quiet. However, this year, Binh Luc has returned and shown the persistence of the traditional wrestling movement as well as the martial arts movement in general from the grassroots. Ly Nhan and Phuc Chau wrestling camp both won 2 medals but no gold medals. Ly Nhan is strong in martial arts but the movement has somewhat declined and did not win any gold medals. Duy Tien has a number of strong martial arts clubs, but due to the fading tradition and the lack of athletes competing in the national wrestling event, although they won 3 gold medals, they still could not compete with other units. Typically, Binh Luc won 2 gold medals. As a result, Thanh Liem district won a total of 13 gold medals, won the Flag and the First prize for the whole delegation; Phu Ly city won 4 gold medals, won the Flag and the Second prize for the whole delegation; Binh Luc district won 2 gold medals, won the Flag and the Third prize for the whole delegation.
Because it is a congress tournament, this year’s tournament does not have a talent wrestling competition – a competition for high-level athletes and veteran wrestlers. Although there is no competition, the athletes still participate in the performance, so the audience can still enjoy the quintessence of traditional wrestling. Participating in the performance are many young martial artists from martial arts clubs throughout the province, making the tournament exciting and unique.
Commenting on this year's tournament, Mr. Nhu Manh Tung, Deputy Director of the Provincial Sports Training Center, said: When there is no longer a mechanism for talented athletes to compete at the grassroots level, the quality of the movement of the units is more clearly revealed. Thanh Liem has the advantage of many athletes but mainly focuses on traditional wrestling. Kim Bang has the advantage of women's freestyle wrestling, and also has a wrestling competition in Phuong Lam village festival (Dong Hoa commune) which is very famous but cannot combine these two events in the competition of the province's "Spring Martial Arts" Wrestling Tournament. Duy Tien and Phu Ly city, wrestling is not their strength so they did not pay much attention to it before, but this year, with careful preparation and calculated competition, Phu Ly achieved a high ranking, winning the third prize overall. The good news about the tournament is that there are many young athletes participating. Although the competition techniques need to be learned, this is the next generation for the wrestling movement of the units, the force that creates the success of the annual "Spring Martial Arts" Wrestling Tournament in particular and other wrestling tournaments of the province and the Federation in general.
