According to expert Nguyen Quang Binh, coffee prices have plummeted because the US President reaffirmed his plan to reduce tariffs on imported coffee. The US Treasury Secretary also announced that this policy will be announced in the next few days, leading the market to believe that coffee prices entering the US will soon decrease significantly.
Business sentiment immediately changed. Many units accelerated sales, cutting inventories to prepare for buying back at lower prices when the new policy took effect. The widespread sell-off caused coffee prices on the international market to plummet in just one session.
Previously, retail coffee prices in the US in August increased nearly 21% compared to the same period last year, partly due to high import tariffs under Mr. Trump. Brazil was taxed up to 50%, Vietnam 20% and Colombia 10%, causing the price of imported coffee to increase sharply.
The US imports more than 99% of the coffee it consumes, making it very sensitive to tariff fluctuations. According to UN Comtrade, Brazil accounts for 30.7% of coffee imports into the US, Colombia 18.3% and Vietnam 6.6%. The tariff reduction is expected to have a major impact on supply and prices in the coming time.
Update world coffee prices
On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures for January 2026 delivery closed on November 13 at $4,392 per ton, up 0.5% ($22 per ton) from yesterday. The March 2026 futures contract increased 0.42% ($18 per ton) to $4,303 per ton.

In contrast, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in December 2025 on the New York Stock Exchange fell 0.4% (1.65 US cents/pound) yesterday to 402 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in March 2026 fell 0.44% (1.7 US cents/pound) to 374.95 US cents/pound.

Yesterday, the industrial raw material market was under strong selling pressure, with coffee falling the most. Arabica lost more than 4.5% to 8,898 USD/ton, while Robusta fell nearly 5.5% to 4,366 USD/ton. This development reflected the cautious sentiment of investors in the face of many unfavorable news.
Meanwhile, a new forecast from StoneX says Brazil’s coffee production in 2026-2027 could reach 70.7 million bags, up 13.5% from the previous crop. Arabica is expected to increase sharply to 47.2 million bags, while Robusta is expected to decline to 23.5 million bags. These figures could contribute to pressure on coffee prices in the short term.
However, MXV believes that the above forecast still has great potential risks due to the unpredictable weather in Brazil in recent times. Although the next crop is in the good season for Arabica, unusual climatic factors make the possibility of achieving the forecast still uncertain.
Actual supplies from Brazil have continued to decline recently, providing some support for prices. October exports were just 4.14 million bags, down 20% year-on-year. Year-to-date, Brazil exported 33.28 million bags, down 20.3% from the 41.8 million bags exported in 2024.
