The heavy rains that lasted from November 16 to noon on November 23 caused severe damage to the agricultural sector in the South Central and Central Highlands regions. The total preliminary economic damage estimated by localities exceeded VND13,078 billion. Of these, Dak Lak province suffered the heaviest loss with more than VND5,330 billion, with hundreds of hectares of crops, including coffee and pepper, severely affected.
Despite the impact of the weather, Vietnam's coffee exports still achieved impressive results. As of mid-November 2025, the country had exported nearly 1.35 million tons of coffee, earning 7.64 billion USD. This figure shows an increase of 15.4% in volume and a surge of 62.6% in value compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam's Arabica coffee is increasingly popular in the international market thanks to its improved quality and more competitive prices compared to the world average. Specifically, in the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 35,200 tons of coffee to South Korea, reaching 176.2 million USD. With a 19% market share, Vietnam maintained its position as the second largest coffee supplier to South Korea, behind only Brazil.
Coffee trading on international exchanges is expected to be less active and unpredictable this week. The reason is that the market falls on Thanksgiving Day in Western countries. In addition to the official trading floors being closed on Thursday, many investors also take the extra day off, significantly reducing the volume and bustle of trading sessions.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market fell sharply on two floors:
Robusta Coffee (London):
Delivery in January 2026: Up 55 USD/ton, to 4,508 USD/ton.
Delivery in March 2026: Up 54 USD/ton, to 4,367 USD/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):
December 2025 delivery: Up 1.1 cents/lb, to 408.55 cents/lb.
March 2026 delivery: Up 1.6 cents/lb, to 378.15 cents/lb.
Arabica coffee futures in New York have stabilized after a sharp decline late last week. The initial decline came after the US president lifted a 40% tariff on many agricultural products imported from Brazil, including green coffee beans. Despite the tariff removal, Brazilian traders said farmers are still holding onto their products, waiting for better prices to sell, as coffee inventories in major consuming countries remain low.
Arabica coffee inventories monitored by ICE continued to decline, reaching a 1.75-year low of 398,645 bags as of November 20. In the same trend, Robusta inventories also fell to a 4.5-month low. This inventory shortage is one of the key factors supporting prices.
Arabica coffee prices also rose sharply due to concerns about drought in Brazil, the largest producer. Minas Gerais state reported just 26.4 mm of rain in the week ending November 21, just 49% of the historical average. However, more optimistic weather forecasts indicate more heavy rains this week, creating favorable conditions for the next crop.
Although the reciprocal duty has been removed for green coffee beans, the US duty exemption does not apply to instant coffee. Therefore, negotiations between Brazilian officials and the US government on the issue of tariffs on instant coffee will continue.
