Goat prices are currently rising, helping farmers make good profits. |
Previously, the goat raising movement in the eastern part of the province developed strongly. Because goats are easy to raise, require little investment and adapt to local climate conditions. People can take advantage of locally available food sources to raise goats.
Many households have the conditions to develop their family economy , stabilize their lives, and escape poverty by raising goats. However, after a long period of low prices, the goat raising movement has gradually declined. Due to lack of profit, even losses, many households have decided to hang up their barns. However, for more than half a year now, the price of goats of all kinds has increased sharply again and remained high.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoang's family (Phu Thanh commune, Dong Thap province) is currently raising 5 goats of various types. A few days ago, Mr. Hoang sold a male goat for meat at 150,000 VND/kg. Mr. Hoang shared: "Previously, the price of goats was too cheap, there was no profit, so I sold almost all of them to save the work of cutting grass. Unexpectedly, this year, the price of goats increased sharply again, there were no goats to sell. At this price, any family that has goats to sell will make a lot of profit."
Mr. Tran Binh Tan (Gia Thuan commune, Dong Thap province) is one of the households with many years of experience in goat farming. His family is currently raising 20 female goats.
According to Mr. Tan, the current price of meat goats and breeding goats in the locality is at a record high. Specifically, the price of male meat goats ranges from 145,000 - 160,000 VND/kg, female meat goats from 120,000 - 140,000 VND/kg, male goats (fattened) from 205,000 - 215,000 VND/kg, female goats from 145,000 - 155,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Tan added: “Currently, the price of meat goats and breeding goats has doubled compared to previous years. Among the goats, male goats have increased the most. The reason for the sharp increase in goat prices is due to a decrease in supply. During the Covid-19 pandemic, goat prices dropped very low. Farmers did not make a profit, so many households sold their goats and hung up their barns.
At this time, seeing the high price of goats, many people have invested in raising goats again. However, the price of breeding goats is both high and scarce.
