* Today's live pig price in the North remains stable, fluctuating between 58,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Thai Binh and Hanoi all purchased at the highest price in the region of 60,000 VND/kg.
In the opposite direction, Yen Bai , Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, and Ha Nam purchased the lowest price of live pigs in the region at 58,000 VND/kg.
Other localities in the region traded at 59,000 VND/kg.
* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions are quiet, trading at around 55,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, Binh Dinh province continues to purchase live pigs at the lowest price in the country at 55,000 VND/kg.
On the other hand, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh continue to buy pigs at the highest price in the region at 58,000 VND/kg.
Traders in the remaining provinces maintained stable transactions in the range of 56,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.
* In the Southern region, today's live pig price did not record any new fluctuations compared to the previous day and fluctuated between 56,000 - 59,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, Ca Mau is the locality that recorded the highest pig price in the region at 59,000 VND/kg.
One price lower, live pigs in localities including Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh are traded at 58,000 VND/kg.
Other localities in the region maintain live pig prices in the range of 56,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.
* In recent months, the domestic pig farming industry has recovered and is on the rise, but currently the amount of imported meat is very large.
Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that in July, Vietnam spent 35 million USD to import more than 13,000 tons of fresh, chilled or frozen pork (up 31.5% in volume and 63.9% in value compared to July 2022). The average import price of pork to Vietnam reached 2,683 USD/ton (up 25% compared to July 2022).
This is the third consecutive month that imported pork has increased compared to the same period in 2022.
Forecasting the price of live pigs in the coming time, VNDIRECT Research commented that the price of live pigs in the second half of 2023 will continue to improve thanks to the gradual recovery of demand from the third quarter of 2023; supply from small-scale farmers will remain limited until the fourth quarter of 2023; and the Government will strictly control the illegal import of pigs into Vietnam.
Pig prices are expected to increase significantly to an average of VND62,000 - 65,000/kg in the last quarter of the year. In the period 2023-2024, the average pig price is forecast to reach VND59,000 - 63,000/kg.
