Ho Chi Minh City: 210kg of roasted pork found to be unsafe for consumption.
During a food safety inspection on January 29th, in preparation for Tet (Lunar New Year), a joint inspection team from Long Nguyen ward, Ho Chi Minh City, discovered a pig roasting facility that had seriously violated food hygiene and safety regulations.
At the time of inspection, the establishment owned by Ms. Vo Thi Hong Tham was selling 14 slaughtered pigs, weighing approximately 210kg in total, but could not produce documents proving their origin or veterinary quarantine certificates. Notably, these pigs showed signs of decomposition and discoloration, failing to meet safety standards for processing and consumption.
The inspection team drew up a report, demanding that the establishment immediately cease trading in the infringing pigs and take appropriate action. During the meeting with the team, Ms. Tham admitted the violation was due to negligence in the preservation process and pledged not to repeat it. For this offense, the establishment was fined 10 million VND.
The incident raises an alarm about the risk of food insecurity during the peak consumption period at the end of the year, especially with popular dishes served at large gatherings during Tet (Lunar New Year).
