* According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the US pork industry is experiencing overproduction, leaving people unable to eat it all. Worse, today's American consumers prefer beef and chicken over pork, causing farmers to lose $30 per pig.
In fact, history shows that the US pork industry has a painful past, falling behind beef in the 1970s and then being surpassed by chicken in the 1980s.
Currently, American farmers are trying to find ways to encourage the domestic market to consume more pork, but it seems quite hopeless, while the world's largest pork buyer, China, is in a trade conflict.
Accordingly, China consumes up to 40% of global pork and the US exported 30% of its pork production there every year until the trade conflict took place.
