In his opening speech, Chairman of the Vietnam Cassava Association Nghiem Minh Tien emphasized: This is an opportunity for the Association to evaluate the results achieved in the past half term, to look at the current situation of cassava production, processing and consumption domestically and internationally; at the same time, to propose directions and solutions in the coming time to promote the role of connecting and supporting businesses and localities, towards the sustainable development of the Vietnamese cassava industry.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Duong Mah Tiep said: In 2024, the whole country will have 517,700 hectares of cassava, with an output of 10.53 million tons, of which Gia Lai province alone will have 86,621 hectares, with an output of 1.82 million tons, accounting for nearly 16.8% of the area and 17.3% of the country's output.

At present, in Gia Lai province, there are 9 cassava starch processing factories with a total capacity of 1,800 tons of finished products/day, cassava is grown in 113/135 communes and wards. The development of cassava has contributed to poverty reduction, stable employment, the formation of many effective rural economic models, and actively contributed to the restructuring of the agricultural sector and the construction of new rural areas in the province.
However, Gia Lai cassava industry is still facing many difficulties such as climate change, fragmented production, lack of mechanization, loose production linkage and especially the impact of cassava mosaic virus disease.

To develop the cassava industry in a stable, effective and sustainable manner, the Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested the Vietnam Cassava Association to continue to support connections and invite businesses and investors to participate in developing raw material areas associated with modern processing industry. At the same time, encourage businesses to invest in upgrading and expanding processing plants, developing post-starch products such as alcohol, modified starch, industrial additives, animal feed, etc. associated with environmental protection and utilizing post-processing by-products.

At the conference, delegates listened to the mid-term review report of the third term, discussed, shared experiences, and proposed many solutions to improve the efficiency of cassava production, processing, and consumption, aiming to build a sustainable value chain for the Vietnamese cassava industry and deeply integrate into the international community.
