Village elders, prestigious people - "Bridges" to keep the border peaceful

With the support of village elders and prestigious people, the work of recovering illegal weapons and explosives in the border commune of Buon Don has achieved positive results.

Buon Don border commune is a special area with 111,379 hectares, this is the commune with the largest area in the country, home to 1,793 households with 6,654 people belonging to 15 ethnic groups. The complexity of the area and population requires the work of ensuring security and order to be implemented persistently, skillfully and humanely.

Village elder and prestigious person Y Thong Kdoh and officers of Se Re Pok Border Guard Station went to each house to talk and disseminate the law.

Taking advantage of the time when most of the people were present at home, Mr. Y Thong Kdoh - the village elder, a prestigious person in Tri hamlet, together with officers and soldiers of the Se Re Pok Border Guard Station, persistently knocked on each door and talked to each person.

Talking slowly and listening to the people not only helps him and his soldiers grasp the local situation, understand the households and people, but is also a way to build lasting trust. From this "bridge", the Border Guard has effectively organized propaganda work, mobilizing individuals who illegally store and use weapons and explosives to hand over.

Village elder Y Thong Kđoh shared: “We told the people that anyone who has weapons or dangerous weapons should voluntarily hand them over to the State. When they voluntarily declare and hand them over, they will be rewarded by the authorities. Thanks to that gentle and sincere propaganda, many people have voluntarily handed over illegal weapons and explosives.”

The words of the village elder, a prestigious person, carry more weight than any dry legal document, becoming the "key" to open the door of trust of people in the border area.

Last year, with the support of the Se Re Pok Border Guard Station and the village elders, Ms. H' Nghia Mlo's family (in Tri B village) voluntarily handed over a homemade gun. To encourage and motivate the spirit of self-awareness, the border guards provided some necessities for her family.

Another case is the family of Mr. Y Vuong Hwing and his wife H'Thai Mlo (in Thong Nhat village). Also last year, while going into the forest, they picked up a gun and left it at home. When the soldiers and prestigious people propagandized, he voluntarily handed it over and was also supported with necessities by the soldiers in green uniforms. It was the understanding and care of the soldiers that created a solid foundation for trust so that people could trust, listen, and follow.

From 2021 up to now, Se Re Pok Border Guard Station has closely coordinated with the political system of villages and hamlets along with the team of village elders and prestigious people to effectively carry out peak campaigns to recover illegal weapons and explosives, contributing to ensuring political security and order and safety in the border area.

Thanks to the coordinated propaganda of village elders and prestigious people, over the years, the Se Re Pok Border Guard Station has recovered dozens of illegal weapons.

The results of the recovery of illegal weapons and explosives are not limited to the number of guns and ammunition handed over, but are also clear evidence of the effectiveness of mass mobilization work and building public trust in border areas.

Mr. Le Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of Buon Don Commune People's Committee shared: In recent times, village elders and prestigious people in the commune have played a very good role as a bridge to bring the policies of the Party and State to the people, especially in participating in propagating people not to use illegal weapons and explosives. With the support of the village elders and prestigious people, the work of collecting illegal weapons and explosives in Buon Don commune not only ensures security but also firmly consolidates the solidarity between the army and the people, building a peaceful life in the border of the Fatherland.
