In 2025, rice exports of many countries, including Vietnam, are forecast to face more challenges than in 2024 due to a more abundant world rice supply.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade as of January 18, 2025, Vietnam's rice export prices are falling rapidly after many years at their peak. Specifically, 5% standard rice is at 419 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 395 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 326 USD/ton and has reached the lowest level in the past 2 years.

The main reason for this price drop is that India has lifted its rice export restrictions after 2 years of temporary closure, increasing supply in the international market and creating downward pressure on prices in the market for other exporting countries, including Vietnam.

In addition, demand from Vietnam's major export markets such as the Philippines and Indonesia is currently slowing down due to abundant domestic reserves and production in 2024 and is currently waiting for prices to fall further before continuing to buy. In addition, in January 2025, rice exporting enterprises did not have many new orders, so rice exports decreased.
