According to expert Nguyen Quang Binh, coffee prices have dropped sharply because the US President reaffirmed his policy of reducing taxes on imported coffee, and the US Treasury Secretary said this policy will be announced in the next few days, causing the market to predict that coffee prices entering the US will decrease significantly.

Business sentiment quickly reversed, as many businesses increased sales and reduced inventories to prepare to buy back at lower prices when the policy took effect, creating a wave of sell-offs that caused international coffee prices to plummet in just one session.

Previously, retail coffee prices in the US in August increased by nearly 21% compared to the same period last year, partly due to high import tariffs under Mr. Trump, with Brazil paying a 50% tax, Vietnam 20% and Colombia 10%, causing imported coffee prices to increase sharply.

As a country that imports more than 99% of the coffee consumed, the US is particularly sensitive to tax fluctuations; according to UN Comtrade, the supply to the US includes 30.7% from Brazil, 18.3% from Colombia and 6.6% from Vietnam, so the tax cut is expected to have a major impact on supply and price levels in the coming time.

Pepper prices slightly decreased

The morning of November 14, 2025, showed that pepper prices dropped slightly to 144,000-145,000 VND/kg; specifically, Dak Lak purchased at 145,500 VND/kg, down 500 VND/kg; Chu Se (Gia Lai) recorded 144,500 VND/kg, down 500 VND/kg; and Dak Nong maintained at 145,500 VND/kg, down 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

The Southeast region today decreased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, with Ba Ria - Vung Tau at 144,000 VND/kg and Binh Phuoc recording the same level of 144,000 VND/kg.

According to an update from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent session, Indonesian Lampung black pepper reached 7,099 USD/ton (down 0.06%), while Muntok white pepper reached 9,732 USD/ton (down 0.06%).

Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained at USD 6,100/ton, while Malaysian ASTA black pepper was stable at USD 9,200/ton and ASTA white pepper reached USD 12,300/ton.

Vietnam's pepper market remained stable today, with black pepper 500g/l trading at 6,400 USD/ton, 550g/l at 6,600 USD/ton and white pepper at 9,050 USD/ton.

Vietnam's pepper industry is recovering strongly after a period of deep decline in 2018 - 2020, with the area remaining at about 110,500 hectares by the end of 2024 but the yield reaching 26 quintals/hectare, nearly double the world's, helping to maintain output around 200,000 tons despite the narrowed area.

In Gia Lai, which is considered a key growing area, the total area is more than 7,500 hectares, of which 6,157 hectares are harvested with a yield of about 3.5 tons/hectare, equivalent to more than 21,600 tons per year, and nearly 2,600 hectares have applied water-saving irrigation along with hundreds of hectares meeting VietGAP, Organic, and Rainforest standards.

Pepper exports continued to improve significantly when in the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 206,300 tons, earning about 1.4 billion USD; although output decreased slightly, value increased by nearly 26%, bringing the industry closer to the target of 1.5 billion USD for the year.

According to experts, domestic pepper prices remaining high and supply disruptions from competitors are creating a great advantage for Vietnam, considered a favorable time for the industry to consolidate its position and move towards more sustainable growth in 2026.
