Vietnam’s coffee harvest has been delayed again this year due to heavy rains, floods and landslides that have disrupted many growing areas. Traders fear the quality of beans will decline as a new storm approaches, adding to market pressure.

Many coffee areas have been damaged, with trees flooded or downed, making it impossible for farmers to harvest on time. This has raised concerns that domestic and global supply may decline in the coming time, especially when demand is on the rise.

The prolonged adverse weather, which coincided with the peak harvest period, has severely affected growing areas in the Central Highlands. Although the coffee cherries were ripe, farmers were unable to harvest them due to prolonged heavy rains, and strong winds even caused the cherries to fall, causing further damage.

In addition to the impact of natural disasters, coffee farmers are also facing difficulties due to lack of labor. They are forced to take advantage of rare dry weather and use family labor to harvest. Purchasing companies also have to wait for more stable weather conditions to be able to organize to hire labor.

Pepper prices increased sharply

The domestic pepper market on the morning of November 29, 2025 witnessed a strong increase from 500 to 1,000 VND/kg. In Dak Lak, the purchase price reached 151,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. In Chu Se (Gia Lai), the current price is 150,500 VND/kg, a similar increase of 1,000 VND/kg. According to an update from the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) reached 7,136 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper reached 9,717 USD/ton.

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper is currently at USD 6,175/ton. Meanwhile, Malaysian ASTA black pepper is stable at USD 9,200/ton and the country's ASTA white pepper is at USD 12,300/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices increased sharply today, 500 g/l type was traded at 6,500 USD/ton, 550 g/l type reached 6,700 USD/ton, and white pepper was at 9,250 USD/ton.

Many exporters believe that demand from the Middle East, the US and Europe is likely to increase slightly in December. However, the new crop expected to hit the market from the first quarter of 2026 could cause prices to fall if supply becomes abundant.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the reciprocal tax exemption policy is bringing a great competitive advantage to Vietnamese enterprises compared to countries that do not enjoy tax incentives. Thanks to this policy, distributors in the US also reduce import costs, thereby easily signing new contracts.

VPSA expects the above policy to contribute to stabilizing the Vietnamese pepper and spice market in 2026, while expanding market share in the US and strengthening trade relations. This is also an opportunity for businesses to increase export turnover, renegotiate prices and increase output to meet the growing demand from this market.
