In Go Cong Tay district, a few days ago, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen's family (Thanh Phu hamlet, Thanh Tri commune) harvested 3 hectares of white radish. The radishes were purchased by traders at 2,000 VND/kg. Because the price of agricultural products was too cheap, he did not continue to sow and switched to growing grass to feed cows. Mr. Nguyen said: "Because fertilizer and pesticides have increased but the selling price is too cheap, I suffered a loss in the last crop of radishes. I have sold all the recent crops of vegetables at low prices. Now I don't know what to switch to to stabilize."
Not far from Mr. Nguyen's house, Mr. Tran Cong Thanh's family is also cultivating 1 hectare of vegetables, growing lettuce and water spinach. However, currently, lettuce only costs about 3,500 VND/kg, water spinach about 4,000 VND/kg.
With this selling price, his family makes very little profit, mainly from labor. “Vegetable prices have been low since Tet, and by the end of the fourth lunar month, prices may not improve. This year’s dry season, irrigation water is still guaranteed, but the difficulty for farmers is that vegetable prices are too low,” Mr. Thanh shared.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang, Director of Hoa Thanh Agricultural Cooperative (Binh Tan Commune, Go Cong Tay District), in recent days, vegetable prices have continued to fall. Vegetables of all kinds such as Chinese cabbage, green cabbage, sweet cabbage, Malabar spinach, water spinach, etc. are priced at 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg. However, the Cooperative still purchases agricultural products for its members at a price of 4,500 VND/kg. The output and production of the Cooperative are still maintained regardless of whether vegetables are expensive or cheap.
"The reason for the low price of vegetables is because the supply is very abundant. This year, the weather is favorable, the water source in the dry season for production is still guaranteed, so farmers' production is not interrupted, and productivity is high.
Faced with price difficulties, since before Tet, the cooperative has had to "brace" to cover losses. Members are guaranteed to buy at the floor price, so profits are still guaranteed, while the cooperative is facing difficulties," said Mr. Quang.
According to the leader of a cooperative specializing in safe vegetable production in Go Cong Tay district, vegetable prices have not improved in recent days. Accordingly, the cooperative purchases vegetables from its members at a floor price of VND5,000/kg. However, because the market price of vegetables is too low, the price that partners buy is only about VND7,000 - 8,000/kg. If the cost of hiring workers for processing, transportation, packaging, etc. is calculated, the cooperative is at a loss. However, to retain partners and members, the cooperative must accept the loss.
DURIAN PRICES ALSO DECREASE SHARPLY

Accordingly, in recent days, the price of durian in the province has continued to decrease sharply. The export situation continues to face difficulties, causing businesses, traders and gardeners to suffer.

Ri 6 durian is still consumed in the markets, so the consumption situation is relatively stable compared to Thai products. Mr. Nha added: "Currently, durian prices have decreased by 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg compared to last month. Last month, Thai durian type A packed in warehouses cost 120,000 - 125,000 VND/kg, Ri 6 type A cost 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg. Type A products cost an average of 20,000 VND/kg higher than type B. Previously, the enterprise mainly purchased and exported durian to the Chinese market. However, due to difficulties in export, mainly due to China's tightening of cadmium inspection, the enterprise has temporarily stopped exporting durian to this market.
Currently, the supply in Tien Giang is not much, so collecting goods is very difficult. Not to mention, businesses may face risks if the shipment is contaminated with Cadmium. Therefore, recently, the company has shifted to exporting durian to other markets.
