Vegetable prices at the market 'suddenly' increase, supermarkets pledge not to increase prices Hundreds of tons of vegetables are transported from the South to the North to serve people after storm No. 3 (Yagi) |
Due to the impact of storm No. 3 and floods in the northern provinces, in recent days, vegetable prices in the city have increased. Da Nang recorded increase compared to normal days.
At Hoa Cuong wholesale market, some items' prices increased compared to normal days. |
At Hoa Cuong wholesale market, Mr. Diep Hoang Thong Anh - Head of Hoa Cuong wholesale market management board - said that on average, Hoa Cuong wholesale market imports 330 - 350 tons of vegetables and fruits every day. Of which, about 30 tons (about 10%) of vegetables and fruits come from the northern provinces, mainly cabbage and cauliflower of all kinds. Due to the impact of the storm, the supply from the north was interrupted. At the same time, the prices of many types of vegetables imported to the market in the days after the storm were recorded to increase, and today there have been signs of a slight decrease.
According to Mr. Thong Anh, the price of vegetables increased due to two main reasons: the impact of storm No. 2, the supply of vegetables from the North to Da Nang City was interrupted. Besides, also due to the impact of the storm, traders of vegetables and fruits in the province Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Lam Dong reverse supply of goods to the North leading to price increases.
“Prices increased mainly in the days immediately after the storm. The items that increased the most were cauliflower, which increased by 20.000 VND/kg compared to normal days, corn, which increased by 7.000 VND/kg, etc. However, in recent days, prices have gradually decreased, and are still higher than normal, but only about 2.000 - 3.000 VND/kg higher,” Mr. Thong Anh informed and added that purchasing power at Hoa Cuong wholesale market is still stable, not increasing, and goods are not scarce.
“Vegetables and fruits in Da Nang City are mainly imported from Lam Dong, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak. Many small traders who import goods from the northern provinces also have suppliers in Lam Dong, Gia Lai, etc., so there is no need to worry about supply disruptions. In addition, some items that have increased in price, such as cauliflower and cabbage, are not essential goods, so small traders and large traders can completely replace them with other items in a short time,” Mr. Thong Anh said.

“I have imported lagim products such as onions, beets, potatoes, chayote, etc. from the northern provinces, but they are currently disrupted due to storms. I am currently importing replacement goods from the Central Highlands provinces. Goods are abundant, and prices have not fluctuated much. Prices increased significantly in the 3 days from September 8 to 10 (after storm No. 9), but have now basically returned to normal,” Ms. Huynh Thi Dung - Hung Dung business household (lot 241, Hoa Cuong wholesale market) - said.
