Durian news today

Not only is durian a key agricultural product, it is also exploited by many Southeast Asian countries as a “soft diplomacy tool”, combining agriculture and tourism. Malaysia is a typical example of building a professional and systematic durian tourism model. This country currently has more than 200 varieties of durian, notably Musang King – a variety that is especially popular in the Chinese market.

In states such as Perak, Johor, Pahang, and Penang, many garden-to-table tours are organized, combining harvesting, packaging, and culinary enjoyment. Tourism Malaysia has developed 62 durian agritourism packages, targeting visitors from China, South Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The season, which lasts until August, is a golden opportunity to attract post-pandemic tourists, while increasing domestic consumption and promoting exports.

Meanwhile, the price of Vietnamese durian on July 19 was stable at around VND20,000 - 90,000/kg, a positive signal in the context of China tightening imports. However, competition in the region is becoming increasingly fierce. Thailand and Malaysia are both investing heavily in branding and creating innovative marketing methods. This is the time for Vietnam to diversify its market, improve quality, preserve and promote its brand to maintain its position in the durian industry in the international market.
