Durian price today September 6: Down 3,000 VND/kg

Durian prices today decreased by 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg at many warehouses. Thai A durian is now 75,000 - 88,000 VND/kg, Musang King also reduced its price. Exports are facing many difficulties.

Domestic durian price developments

On September 6, the durian market recorded downward adjustments in many warehouses, especially in the Central Highlands. The price of Thai durian grade A decreased by 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg, ranging from 75,000 - 88,000 VND/kg. Musang King durian grade A also decreased slightly, currently being purchased at around 65,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast, the price of Ri6 type A remains at 42,000 - 46,000 VND/kg, types B and C at 26,000 - 30,000 VND/kg and 24,000 - 26,000 VND/kg. Thai durian type A fluctuates at 76,000 - 86,000 VND/kg, while the VIP type remains high, from 100,000 - 105,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands, Ri6 prices are slightly higher, in some places up to 50,000 VND/kg for type A. Thai durian B ranges from 55,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, type C is about 42,000 - 45,000 VND/kg. VIP and Musang King varieties continue to maintain their appeal but prices have also adjusted in a downward trend.

Challenges from export markets

Since being officially allowed to export to China at the end of 2022, Vietnamese durian has quickly become a fast-growing agricultural product, reaching a turnover of billions of dollars in just one year. China currently accounts for 95% of total global durian imports, with an import value of up to 7 billion USD in 2024. Previously, Thailand almost dominated the supply, but Vietnam has quickly captured a significant market share.

However, along with great opportunities come a series of strict requirements. From growing area codes, traceability, to pesticide residue levels, everything must meet strict standards. Even a single substandard shipment can be returned, affecting national reputation and the supply chain.
