Steel price today December 2, 2025: Slight increase due to year-end purchasing demand

World steel market slightly increased thanks to rising iron ore

At the end of the trading session on December 1, the price of December rebar futures on the Shanghai Futures Exchange increased by 0.27% (8 yuan) to 3,000 yuan/ton. Other key steel products on the Shanghai Futures Exchange also increased simultaneously.

However, iron ore prices fluctuated in opposite directions. On the Dalian Exchange, iron ore prices fell 2.41% (19.5 yuan) to 788 yuan/ton. On the contrary, on the Singapore Exchange-SGX, iron ore futures for December delivery increased by 1.42 USD to 106.91 USD/ton.

Iron ore futures rose for a fourth straight session, supported by strong buying activity in medium-grade iron ore cargoes, but gains were capped by steel mills’ annual year-end blast furnace maintenance.

China’s blast furnace steel output fell slightly last week as some mills began maintenance, with capacity utilization down 0.6 percentage points, according to Mysteel. Iron ore inventories at Chinese ports as of November 28 fell 0.42% from the previous week. Despite weakening fundamentals, iron ore prices are still supported by solid demand for medium-grade ore.

Brokerage firm Everbright Futures forecasts international iron ore supplies will continue to recover in December. Meanwhile, weak blast furnace profits and increased maintenance activities may further reduce pig iron output, weighing on steel prices.
