Information from many gardeners, agents, and businesses, on the afternoon of August 11, pepper price traded in the common range of 140,500 - 142,700 VND/kg, a slight increase compared to yesterday.
Specifically, in Gia Lai, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, pepper prices are listed by many agents at 140,500 - 141,500 VND/kg. Meanwhile, in Dak Lak and Lam Dong, the price of this item is traded at 141,000 - 142,700 VND/kg.
Thus, pepper prices have tended to increase gradually in the past few days and are currently up more than VND3,000/kg compared to the low price of late July, up VND10,000 - 13,000/kg compared to the low price of previous months.
However, the current price is still lower than the previous peak of VND205,000/kg and lower than expected by many export enterprises.
In fact, according to records, domestic trading activities are relatively quiet because many gardeners still have the mentality of stockpiling goods waiting for prices to increase, while the new harvest has not yet begun.
Meanwhile, according to information from the Pepper Association world and businesses, world pepper prices are currently largely stable in many regions.
The Indonesian exchange, one of the most active markets, continued to maintain an increase of 0.07% and 0.08%. Currently, black and white pepper are traded in the range of 7,147 - 9,991 USD/ton.
The Brazilian market remained unchanged, trading at around $6,000/ton (about VND158,400/kg). Malaysian black and white pepper reached $12,500/ton and $9,250/ton.
In Vietnam's pepper export market, the price of 500g/l and 550g/l black pepper is currently hovering around 6,240 - 6,370 USD/ton. The price of ASTA white pepper remains at 8,950 USD/ton (equivalent to 236,280 VND/kg).
Businesses said that the uncertainties related to tariffs, especially from the US market, have negatively impacted the overall demand recently. However, due to the decline in supply in some production areas, pepper prices have recently remained stable or increased slightly.
"Tax policies will soon be clear, and businesses will also come up with appropriate buying and selling plans, which may cause pepper prices to fluctuate in the coming time.
However, with world supply still lower than demand, prices are likely to remain stable or tend to increase," said a business representative.
