Vietnam pepper exports continue to flourish
According to the Vietnam Customs Department, in the first 9 months of 2025, the country exported 186,503 tons of pepper, down 7.1% in volume but reaching 1.27 billion USD, up 28% over the same period last year.
In the third quarter alone, turnover reached 417.7 million USD with output of 63,242 tons, up 17.1% and 8.5% respectively compared to the second quarter.
Despite the slowdown in demand from the US market due to the temporary 20% import tax, exports to China, India, the Netherlands and the Philippines increased sharply. In particular, the amount of pepper to Germany increased by 43.4% and to India by 64.3%, thanks to the recovery of the food processing industry.
In India, total pepper imports reached 27,682 tons by the end of August, down 10.5% compared to 2024 but 34.4% higher than 2023. Vietnam currently accounts for 34.5% of the market share, equivalent to 9,563 tons, up 7.1% over the same period. It is forecasted that Indian pepper output may decrease by 20% due to unfavorable weather, opening up great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to expand exports.
Market outlook and expectations for 2025
In the third quarter, domestic pepper prices increased by 12-15.6% compared to the previous quarter, although there was a slight decrease of 2-3.3% in early October. From June to September, pepper prices fluctuated strongly, with the highest increase reaching 11,000-12,000 VND/kg in August.
According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPSA), global demand remains high, while world supply is expected to reach only 520,000 tons, lower than last year. With an upward price trend and a solid export market share, the Vietnamese pepper industry is expected to reach a turnover of over 1.5 billion USD in 2025, continuing to maintain its position as the world's leading pepper exporter.
