Pepper price today November 24, 2025: Supply bottleneck

Overall, over the past week, domestic pepper prices increased by a total of VND2,500/kg compared to the previous week. The main reason comes from the purchasing demand of processing enterprises to serve year-end orders. Supply in many large growing areas is being tightened, causing the amount of goods in circulation to decrease, creating a push for pepper prices at the present time.

Key pepper growing areas are continuously affected by prolonged rain and floods, causing waterlogging and directly affecting the growth of pepper plants. The risk of root rot, leaf fall and fungal diseases may reduce output in the new crop, causing the market to worry that pepper prices may continue to increase if supply declines significantly.

Vietnam remains the world leader in pepper production and export. In the first 10 months of the year, pepper exports reached 1.4 billion USD, up 26%, while pepper export prices increased by 34% over the same period. However, export turnover to the US increased by only 4.3% because the volume of goods decreased sharply due to reciprocal taxes, causing pepper prices to increase too high. The removal of taxes by the US has helped businesses hope that the largest market will soon recover.

The general recommendation for farmers is to sell in batches to avoid risks when pepper prices increase again, and to work with reputable agents to reduce risks in price and quality. For businesses, promoting deep processing, taking advantage of opportunities from US tax incentives and expanding export markets are important directions.

Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper price was at USD 6,175/ton. Malaysian ASTA black pepper price remained stable at USD 9,200/ton; the country’s ASTA white pepper price reached USD 12,300/ton.

Vietnam's black pepper price today is stable at a high level, trading at 6,400 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,600 USD/ton; white pepper price at 9,050 USD/ton.

Last week, Indonesian black pepper prices decreased slightly by 4 USD/ton compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, pepper prices in other leading producing countries remained stable in general. At the same time, Indonesian Muntok white pepper prices decreased by 72 USD/ton last week, while white pepper prices remained unchanged in Malaysia and Vietnam.

On November 21, 2025, five major associations in the agricultural and export sectors, including the Vietnam Food Association, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processors and Exporters, the Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association, and the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association, sent a petition to the National Assembly leaders. The content of the document focuses on proposing amendments to a number of points in the 2024 Law on Value Added Tax because the new regulations are directly affecting the business activities of enterprises related to the prices of pepper, coffee, seafood and many other agricultural and forestry products.

VAT Law No. 48/2024/QH15 officially took effect from July 1, 2025, with the aim of improving procedures and creating a more favorable legal corridor. However, the implementation process showed that some regulations were not suitable for reality, especially for unprocessed agricultural products. Enterprises said that the new tax policy increased capital costs, affected cash flow, and put significant pressure on purchasing and storing activities of items such as pepper, cashew nuts, wood and seafood.

Associations assess that VAT barriers are reducing the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural enterprises. With key export items such as pepper, coffee and cashew, pepper prices and agricultural input prices fluctuate continuously, so enterprises depend heavily on flexible cash flow. When VAT is applied to unprocessed products, the increased costs make it difficult for enterprises to maintain a stable supply of goods, especially during a period when agricultural prices are fluctuating strongly.

Based on the reported problems, the associations recommended that the National Assembly consider amending a number of articles in the 2024 VAT Law. The goal is to reduce financial pressure on businesses, protect the agricultural supply chain and maintain sustainable growth for key export industries, including pepper, which is highly dependent on fluctuations in pepper prices and the world market.
