At many markets and retail outlets in Ho Chi Minh City, small traders are resorting to various methods to stimulate demand. Behind the low prices of eggs lies the worry of farmers as production costs remain high, while sales are becoming increasingly difficult.

In some places, you can buy 30 eggs for as little as 30,000 VND – a price rarely seen in recent years. The oversupply and slow demand are forcing vendors to continuously lower prices to clear their inventory.
At farms in Dong Nai , approximately 40,000 eggs are sold daily, but instead of making a profit, Mr. Nguyen Van Chieu (Thong Nhat commune, Dong Nai city) says that the more he sells, the more pressure he faces.

The low prices have persisted since the middle of last year. While consumption has not yet recovered to pre-pandemic levels, many farms are still increasing their herds, leading to an oversupply. The pressure is further exacerbated by the persistently high prices of animal feed, vaccines, and veterinary medicines.
According to the Dong Nai Livestock Association, the worrying issue is not only the low egg prices, but also the risk of prolonged oversupply if production continues to prioritize quantity over actual market demand.
