World gold price today May 17, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was at 3,180.9 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 0.91% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,352 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 101 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is about 17.7 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

World gold prices began to fall again after a sharp increase this morning, and recorded the sharpest weekly decline in the past 6 months.

The main reason for the sharp decline in gold prices was the strengthening of the US dollar and positive signals from the interim trade deal between the US and China. According to Nitesh Shah, commodity strategist at WisdomTree, optimism about trade negotiations has reduced demand for gold, which is considered a safe haven asset in times of uncertainty. At the same time, the strengthening of the US dollar makes gold less attractive to investors holding other currencies.

Besides, according to Reuters, physical gold demand has improved in most key markets in Asia this week, as the world gold price adjustment has stimulated consumers to return to buying.

In India, dealers are offering discounts of up to $34 an ounce over official domestic prices (including 6% import duty and 3% sales tax), up from a maximum discount of $16 an ounce last week.

"Demand is better this week than last week due to lower prices, but many are still waiting for further price reduction before buying," said a Kolkata-based jeweller.

Domestic gold prices in India hovered around 92,900 rupees per 10 grams on Friday, after hitting a record high of 99,358 rupees last month.

Spot gold was trading at $3,216.17 an ounce at 0434 GMT on Friday, after falling to a more than one-month low of $3,120.14 on Thursday. Prices are on track for their biggest weekly decline since November last year.

In China, the world's largest gold consumer, dealers charged a premium of $9-50 an ounce over international spot prices, compared with $42-49 an ounce last week.

"The correction in gold prices has certainly encouraged some investors to take advantage of the situation, seeing this as a good opportunity after missing out on the previous rally," said independent analyst Ross Norman.

"We expect jewellery demand to remain stable in the coming quarters, while retail investment demand is likely to remain strong given gold's compelling investment story," ANZ Bank said in a report.
