We set off in late January - a time when the snow is deep, the sky is almost a deep blue and the trees have shed all their leaves, leaving only a pure, rustic landscape. As the car enters the Heilongjiang province, the mountains begin to mist, the cold wind blows gently in your face and the sound of the car in the snow is a reminder: you have left the noisy world.

The car from the nearby town turned onto the mountain road, leading into the center of the village. When the car door opened, I took a deep breath of the clear, cold air, the scent of freshly fallen snow and pine trees mixed together. Before my eyes was an old wooden house roofed with black pine and covered with a layer of snow nearly half a meter thick. Red lanterns peeped through the thin layer of fog, as if inviting me to step into a magical world. The group fell silent, just to feel the moment when they were no longer tourists , but part of the winter picture.

Living slowly among the snow and firelight

We chose a traditional inn, next to the main road through the village. Inside the room was warm thanks to the wood stove and the old Kang bed, outside the snow was still falling lightly outside the window. Through the window frame, we could see the pine branches bent by the snow, the light white mist, and the sound of birds chirping somewhere. The group gathered around the wooden table, drinking hot tea with the scent of chestnuts, together remembering the past moments and thinking about the future.

Unique experiences

We climbed into a dog sled and were pulled through the vast pine forest covered in snow. The sound of dogs sledging on the snow, the creaking of wood, the falling snow - all evoked a feeling of slowing down in nature. After battling the cold outside, we headed to the natural hot springs near the village. Steam rose in the -15°C air, creating a beautiful mist around the springs.

Closing my eyes, I only felt the warmth spreading under my skin, the sound of the silent forest and my thoughts suddenly became light. When the night fell, Tuyet Huong village was lit up by a series of lanterns and yellow lights from the wooden houses. The snow reflected the light creating a gentle pink color, the group walked together in the middle of the snowy road, each step creating a rustling sound, feeling like returning to childhood.

Cuisine between snow and friendship

In such a cold place, each dish is like a warm "medicine": Spicy hot pot from the Northeast when the outside temperature is ‑20°C, the hot pot bowl steams up, the spicy taste burns the tongue but gradually warms the body, making the whole group laugh out loud in shock but fascinated. Hot steamed buns, thin skin, fragrant meat and mushroom filling, the heat from the steamer rolls with the smoke, spreading the aroma throughout the room. Grilled cod with sweet and salty meat and honey-baked potatoes - simple dishes but indescribably delicious when combined with the surrounding scenery. Traditional millet wine is light and warm, making the conversation with friends after the meal last longer: remembering the night before, talking about tomorrow and recalling why you chose this place.

Local culture: simple but profound

The people of Tuyet Huong village live slowly, and it is this slowness that makes us stop to look, to ask, to listen. An old woman by the window is knitting, a few red-cheeked children are throwing snow and laughing loudly, their eyes sparkling like crystal. We are invited into the house to play, drink tea, and listen to stories about the old days when snow covered our chests, about traditional festivals that took place in the middle of the white pine forest. These small stories make the journey "soulful".

I remember clearly the moment when the group stood on the mountain observatory, looking down at the village and pine forest spread out in the mist. All voices were silent, only the sound of the wind blowing, the snow gently falling, and the golden light of the last day from afar. In that moment, I felt so small but deeply connected to nature and friends. Then the moment when we wrapped ourselves in blankets, left the window ajar, letting the snow drift into the room, the feeling of softness, coldness and warmth all at the same time made me smile and think: "I will miss this cold".

The day we left the village, we stepped out, leaving footprints in the snow, our cameras full of moments and our hearts full of stories. As the car drove away, Xuexiang Village gradually became smaller in the rearview mirror, but the feeling of "The most beautiful snow-covered village in China" was no longer a tourism slogan. It had become a part of our memories.
