ACV has been assigned as the investor for phase 2 of the Long Thanh Airport Project, except for the technical infrastructure works ensuring flight operations, which will be assigned to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) for investment.

ACV is preparing the feasibility study report for phase 2 of Long Thanh Airport, which may include a phased investment plan for the facilities to meet operational needs. ACV is allocating sufficient capital to invest in the facilities under phase 2 of the Long Thanh Airport Project, ensuring the quality, progress, and investment efficiency of the projects, while preserving and developing state capital in the enterprise. In addition, ACV is closely coordinating with VATM in the investment preparation process for the facilities under phase 2 of the Long Thanh Airport Project.

Long Thanh Airport is planned to be built with a capacity of 100 million passengers and 25 million tons of cargo per year, with a total investment of over 16 billion USD. The project is divided into 3 investment phases.

According to the decision approving the Long Thanh Airport construction investment project, phase 1, in 2020, the project is divided into four component projects. ACV (Airports Corporation of Vietnam) was assigned as the investor for Component Project 3, which includes essential airport facilities. In phase 1, the project will invest in the construction of one runway, one passenger terminal, and other supporting facilities with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year.

At the end of March 2025, the Prime Minister approved the adjustment of the Long Thanh Airport Project, Phase 1. This included approving the addition of an extra runway to be built within Phase 1 of the project.

On December 19, 2025, ACV held a ceremony to inaugurate the facilities and launch the first flight at Long Thanh Airport. According to the plan, Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport will be completed and put into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
