In the direction of fundamental and comprehensive educational innovation, equipping knowledge of culture, arts and physical education and sports is placed in a strategic position, aiming to build a generation of Vietnamese citizens who develop comprehensively in the new era.
Art - a medicine to balance and nurture school emotions
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao, Music teacher, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Tran Van Giau High School for the Gifted ( Tay Ninh province), in the new general education program, art plays a core role in developing students' qualities, abilities and aesthetic emotions.
"Art is not only an entertaining subject, it is also the foundation for creating a generation of citizens who are both competent and have a deep soul in the 4.0 era. Art education contributes to the formation of qualities, aesthetic abilities, stimulates creative thinking and develops high community skills for students," Ms. Thao shared.
Teaching practice shows that, in specialized schools with high academic pressure, music lessons are a valuable spiritual medicine. Students are relieved of stress, renewed energy and maintain enthusiasm in learning, helping them to be more stable in psychological issues.
Ms. Thao said that many students were initially shy and timid, but thanks to participating in performances and group singing, they gradually became more confident and dared to express themselves in front of a crowd.
Art not only creates joy, but also helps students broaden cultural understanding, nurture compassion and love for their homeland.

"In addition, learning about domestic and foreign songs of historical and cultural significance will help children develop a love for their homeland and compassion for people. They will love their country more, and at the same time respect and understand more about the culture and art of other countries," said Ms. Thao.
In addition, students are developed in terms of creative thinking and good memory training through learning music theory and reading music.
In particular, performances in class or at school always require students to be creative and have high thinking skills to stage and express their unique ideas.
Long-term development strategy
At Tran Van Giau High School for the Gifted, art education activities are organized systematically and continuously. The school union maintains a series of regular art programs, from small stages such as the flag-raising performance at the beginning of the week to large events such as the opening ceremony, the end of the school year or the celebration of major holidays.
Each occasion is an opportunity for students to practice performance skills, teamwork and responsibility.
Along with that, the school develops creative art competitions such as lantern design, video clip making, and magazine making to stimulate thinking and creativity.
The art club system includes singing, dancing, and musical instrument groups, becoming a space to connect students with the same passion, with professional guidance from music teachers.
"With the support of teachers, the club not only trains talents but also helps students learn discipline, perseverance and teamwork, important skills for the journey to adulthood," said Ms. Thao.

In addition, the school also integrates art activities into large group activities such as Spring Camp or performances in the schoolyard during recess to create a community atmosphere.
The highlight is the Community Fundraising Concert organized by the students themselves. All profits are used to support disadvantaged students, turning art into a bridge of love.
"When students see that their artistic skills can create real value in life, they will appreciate and be more passionate about this subject," Ms. Thao shared.
So that art is no longer a "secondary subject"
From practical experience, Ms. Thao believes that teaching and learning art is only truly effective when there is synchronous investment in classrooms, musical instruments and funding for organizing activities.
"Music is an expensive subject, so support from the school, the Department of Education and Training and the Ministry of Education and Training is essential. If students have enough conditions to practice, play and perform, they will learn more lessons about personality and creativity," she emphasized.
Besides art, physical education and sports are also considered "pillars" to improve student quality.
Sports help students maintain physical fitness, ensuring they are healthy enough to study and develop optimal height. Sports also help students practice leadership and team management skills, and strategic thinking.
"I myself was a provincial athlete when I was a student, so I understand how persistent training will transform into discipline, will to succeed and strong team spirit," said Ms. Thao.

In addition to the art clubs, the school also has clubs such as Football, Table Tennis, Chess, Volleyball, etc. which are always active and achieve many successes. The harmonious combination of art and sports has created a comprehensive educational environment, helping students develop both physically and mentally.
Based on that reality, Ms. Thao recommends that management levels develop a long-term policy on art education in general schools. In addition to updating the curriculum, there should be a reasonable investment and socialization mechanism, creating conditions for schools to have a true space for artistic and sports creation.
"Many parents still think that art subjects, especially at high school level, are for entertainment and not important. Parents should look at it differently. With such intense study pressure, music is the most valuable spiritual medicine.
Music helps students balance and calm their minds after heavy study hours. When the mind is relaxed, concentration will naturally improve. Moreover, it also helps students develop creative thinking and be bold and confident when standing in front of others - things that will help them succeed in their future work," Ms. Thao emphasized.

The female teacher hopes that the school, along with the close attention and investment from the Department of Education and Training and the Ministry of Education and Training, will continue to create the best conditions for teachers and facilities for this group of subjects.
"Especially because the subject requires a lot of equipment and musical instruments, investing in facilities for Music lessons is extremely necessary. This is also a practical solution to help students have more opportunities to touch the world of music in a close and natural way, while reducing costs for families.
Financial support will help promote humanistic art projects such as the Fundraising Music Night, etc. so that students can see that their artistic skills have practical meaning, while also practicing organizational skills and a sense of responsibility," said Ms. Thao.
