Physical Education is a core subject in the national education program that aims to provide basic knowledge and movement skills to learners through exercises and games. Currently, the team of physical education teachers in schools across the province is basically stable and is regularly trained to improve their knowledge to meet professional and technical requirements. Facilities, playgrounds, training grounds, and physical education and sports equipment in schools from kindergarten to high school are also planned and gradually invested in accordance with the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive educational innovation.
At Quang Duc Kindergarten, Luu Ve commune, in order to effectively promote physical education for children, in addition to training and improving the professional qualifications of the teaching staff, the school has invested in building a diverse and scientific physical education environment both inside and outside the classroom. In particular, the outdoor sports development area is planned to be 150 square meters wide with many equipment such as slides, swings, seesaws... suitable for each age group. In particular, over the years, in addition to physical education lessons in the classroom, the school has regularly organized outdoor physical activities associated with games such as: "Passing the ball over the head", "Bringing food to the warehouse"... According to teacher Vu Thi Anh Nguyet, Principal of Quang Duc Kindergarten, these games not only create excitement for children every time they go to school but also contribute to the comprehensive development of physical strength and hand-eye coordination skills, and dexterity in movement. In recent years, the rate of children with normal weight and height development at Quang Duc Kindergarten has always been high; the rate of underweight malnourished children is only less than 2%.
Clearly defining the purpose, requirements as well as the role and significance of physical education activities for the comprehensive development of students, in addition to investing in building facilities and equipment to serve the practice and study of students, Quang Dai Secondary School, Nam Sam Son Ward always strictly implements teaching physical education according to the curriculum framework of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to ensure correct teaching and full teaching of 2 periods/week. Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy, Principal of Quang Dai Secondary School, said: “The school has invested in a multi-purpose building, which is a very favorable condition for physical education and sports activities of the school to take place according to plan regardless of hot or rainy weather. In recent times, to improve the effectiveness of physical education, the school's board of directors has always encouraged teachers to innovate teaching methods suitable to the physical facilities to improve the quality of teaching hours, ensuring the goal of equipping knowledge, motor skills, educating physical qualities and forming sports practice habits for students.”
According to the assessment of the Department of Education and Training, implementing the direction of the industry, over the past years, 100% of schools in the province have implemented the regular physical education program in accordance with regulations as well as extracurricular sports activities. Many schools have been creative in organizing physical activities through Vovinam martial arts, folk dance, aerobics... attracting a large number of students and teachers to participate, creating a vibrant, positive and friendly school atmosphere.
However, in addition to the achieved results, the education sector's assessment also shows that there are still many difficulties in physical education activities for students. Notably, the physical facilities and equipment in some schools are still lacking compared to the needs of use; some schools' outdoor sports training grounds do not ensure conditions and area. In particular, with the distribution of the program of 2 main periods/week, the content of physical education is not only limited in study time but also poor in content. In addition to the main study content of athletics and physical education such as: running, shuttlecock kicking, high jump, long jump, gymnastic exercises... very few schools have the conditions to teach subjects that are loved by many students such as swimming, soccer, volleyball, basketball... In addition, the mentality of "main subject", "secondary subject" is also a barrier that makes physical education activities in schools be overlooked...
The above difficulties and limitations require more efforts from many sides for physical education activities for students to develop strongly, creating a premise, along with the goal of improving the quality of education. In particular, the education sector continues to advise and closely coordinate with authorities at all levels in investing in facilities, expanding playgrounds and training grounds, creating a dynamic and positive school environment. Each school needs to increase extracurricular sports activities, build various types of sports clubs to create an environment for students to study and practice. Each teacher needs to actively improve teaching methods for the comprehensive development of students' physical, mental and personality. Reality has proven that a successful education system not only trains individuals who are good at knowledge, but also nurtures healthy, confident, and energetic physical strength.
