Vietnam - Cambodia border defense friendship exchange contributes to strengthening relations between the two countries' armies

The 2nd Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange is one of the key defense foreign affairs events and activities in 2025 of the Ministry of Defense and the armies of the two countries. On this occasion, we had a discussion with Lieutenant General Nguyen Anh Tuan - Political Commissar of the Border Guard (BĐBP) about this issue.

In the context of the complex regional and world situation, what coordination mechanisms have the Vietnam Border Guard and the Cambodian Border Guard deployed to improve cooperation efficiency, promptly handle arising issues, and contribute to building a peaceful , friendly, cooperative and developing Vietnam-Cambodia border?

The Border Guard Command has directed the Border Guards of the Vietnam-Cambodia border provinces to strengthen coordination with the Military Sub-regions, the Gendarmerie Command and the Public Security Departments of the adjacent border provinces to seriously and effectively implement the border documents signed by the two countries' senior leaders.

At the same time, maintain regular and effective mechanisms for consultations and periodic meetings at all levels; closely and synchronously coordinate on all aspects of work to improve the effectiveness of border management and protection; strengthen the effectiveness of law enforcement and crime prevention. At the same time, promote the mechanism for coordination in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue; disseminate legal education ; establish border twinning... in accordance with the spirit of the Border Cooperation Agreements signed between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Cambodian border protection force.

Thanks to that, political security, social order and safety in the border area are always stable, economy, culture and society have made steady progress, contributing significantly to the common development of the two countries, building a peaceful, friendly, stable border for mutual development.

Looking forward to the 2nd Vietnam - Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange, what specific impacts do you expect this activity to bring to the border area?

I believe that the Vietnam - Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange plays an important role in the relationship between the two Parties, two States, two Armies and is very meaningful to the Party committees, authorities, armed forces and people on both sides of the border.

This activity not only aims at military and defense exchanges but also serves as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and friendship; promote substantive cooperation between local authorities, people and border protection forces of the two countries, together build a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developed border area; together protect the border effectively and promote socio-economic development, improve the lives of people on both sides of the border.

Contribute to strengthening strategic trust, deepening the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries; so that the special relationship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia will continue to be "a brilliant manifestation of close friendship and solidarity in fighting" as affirmed by President Ho Chi Minh and King Norodom Sihanouk.

In the coming time, what content will the border protection forces of the two countries continue to implement, comrade?

In the coming time, the border protection forces of Vietnam and Cambodia will continue to promote the important results achieved in the past time. Especially, efforts will be made to concretize the key contents that the two Ministers agreed upon in this Exchange with new and innovative contents and methods.

In particular, focusing on strengthening coordination in law enforcement, border protection, and border markers; continuing to invest in and upgrade the border gate system, and piloting the construction of "Smart Border Gates"; activities such as talks, joint patrols, anti-terrorism exercises, disease prevention, cultural and sports exchanges, etc. will be maintained in a regular manner to continue to strengthen trust and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in a practical, effective, friendly and sustainable manner.

Thereby, it affirms that the Vietnam - Cambodia land border not only plays a role in determining the territorial boundaries of each country but is truly a space for cooperation and development, a bridge of solidarity and friendship between the two countries and the Party committees, authorities, armed forces and people on both sides of the border.
