This afternoon, November 12, Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam Young Physicians Association and Hoang Long Healthcare System organized a ceremony to present 10 high-quality flexible endoscopy systems to 10 primary general hospitals.

This is a gift from Professor Dao Van Long, former Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital, and his family, including his 3 children, all of whom are lecturers at Hanoi Medical University.

This is an endoscopy system that includes all the accompanying equipment such as processor, screen, gastric and rectal endoscopes, water tank, leak test kit, etc. The system is equipped with advanced optical and image processing technology developed by Fujifilm Company (Japan), supporting doctors in detecting lesions, especially useful for early stage gastrointestinal cancer.

Localities with hospitals receiving endoscopy systems include: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Can Tho , Lam Dong, Cao Bang, Quang Ngai.

Along with these 10 modern endoscopy systems, Professor Dao Van Long’s family also donated training courses on knowledge and practice of endoscopy to hospitals for doctors and technicians, with training duration of 3-6 months. About 50 doctors and technicians directly participated in these training courses.

According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Chairman of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association, the gift from Professor Dao Van Long's family is very meaningful not only in terms of the value of the equipment but also in terms of expertise. The accompanying training package will help the hospitals receiving the gift maximize the effectiveness of the expensive equipment in diagnosing and treating diseases, and early detection of gastrointestinal cancer.

Although Professor Dao Van Long's family did not share the total value of the gift, according to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, an endoscope alone is worth billions of dong. Currently, in the public hospital system nationwide, very few units own a modern endoscopy system with full equipment like the gift package that Professor Dao Van Long's family gave to 10 hospitals.

Representative of the 10 hospitals receiving gifts, Dr. Ly Thi Bach Nhu, Director of Cao Bang General Hospital, said the gift is extremely valuable to provincial and regional hospitals, where even basic diagnostic and treatment equipment is still lacking.

"Thanks to modern medical equipment and a team of well-trained staff, we believe that the quality of examination, diagnosis and treatment will be significantly improved. Many diseases, including cancer, can be detected early for timely treatment on the spot. This will significantly reduce the number of referrals, helping people access quality medical services right in their hometown," Ms. Nhu said.
