On the evening of February 9th, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law announced, citing a notice dated February 3rd from the French Ambassador to Vietnam, that Professor Dr. Do Van Dai - Vice Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law - was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Academic Palms by decree dated December 29th, 2025, of the French Prime Minister .
The award recognizes his significant contributions to the development of cooperative relations between France and Vietnam, particularly in the fields of law and higher education .
According to the announcement, the French Embassy will hold a medal awarding ceremony in the near future.
The Order of Academic Palms is an honorary order of the French State, originating in 1808 and established by Napoleon I to honor outstanding members of French universities.
This is France's oldest non- military honorary medal. It is primarily awarded to individuals in the French education sector, but also to a number of foreigners who have made significant contributions to the spread of French culture and scholarship worldwide.

Professor Dr. Do Van Dai was born in 1974 in Bac Giang (formerly). He was the valedictorian of Hanoi Law University (academic year 1992-1993), and later earned a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Business Law degree in Aix-en-Provence (Republic of France).
In 2004, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Aix-Marseille III University and passed the French national examination for the title of Maître de conférences in 2005.
Before returning to Vietnam to work in 2007, he taught and conducted research at several French universities such as the University of Paris XIII, the University of Paris 2, and the University of Tours.
He is also a member of the international research group at the Center for Economic Law Research, Paul Cézanne University.
In Vietnam, he taught courses in Civil Law, International Commercial Arbitration, and Legal Research Methods at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and participated in many joint training programs between the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law and French universities.

He was recognized as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor in 2011 and Professor in 2021.
Regarding his administrative work, he previously held the positions of Head of the Department of Civil Law, Head of the Faculty of Civil Law, and was appointed Vice Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law in 2024.
Besides teaching and research, he also participated in many practical activities: Arbitrator at the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), Vice Chairman of the VIAC Scientific Council, member of the Advisory Council on Case Law of the Supreme People's Court; participated in the editorial team for amending the Civil Code and revising several draft laws at the request of the National Assembly's Law Committee.
In the field of science, Professor Dr. Do Van Dai is the author and editor of many in-depth works on civil law, contracts, and commercial arbitration; he has published numerous articles in prestigious international journals and contributed to academic publications in French.
Previously, in 2018, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Dien was also awarded the Academic Palm Branch Medal while serving as Vice Rector of the University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City).
