The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video of Su-30SM fighter jets taking off and destroying a series of Ukrainian suicide boats off the coast of the Crimean peninsula.
"Su-30SM fighters and Su-24M attack aircraft of the Black Sea Fleet performed tasks to ensure maritime safety off the coast of the Crimean Peninsula. The crews continuously patrolled to detect suicide boats and high-speed landing craft of the enemy, then used artillery and bombs to destroy the targets," the Russian Defense Ministry said today.
Video released by Russian defense television shows a Su-30SM multirole fighter jet taking off from a naval air base. Cockpit footage then shows the Russian fighter jet diving and firing its 30mm automatic cannon at a speedboat moving in the sea, causing it to explode and create a large plume of smoke.

"The Su-30SM squadron was also responsible for intercepting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used by the enemy to attack infrastructure in Crimea. Black Sea Fleet pilots shot down dozens of Ukrainian UAVs in the area," the Russian military said.
Ukrainian officials have not commented on the information.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on November 22 that it had detected and neutralized four Ukrainian naval drones in the western Black Sea as they were heading towards the Crimean peninsula.
Ukraine has recently launched several missile, UAV and suicide boat attacks on targets in Crimea, and deployed several landing teams using high-speed vehicles to infiltrate the peninsula. The attacks forced the Russian Black Sea Fleet to disperse its forces and increase its surveillance and defense capabilities in Crimea and the Black Sea.

The unmanned suicide boats are considered an “asymmetric” weapon that Ukraine uses to attack much more valuable Russian warships. These boats are remotely controlled, equipped with bombs or large explosives, capable of damaging the warship if hit.
Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula after a referendum in 2014. Ukraine and Western countries consider the move illegal. Ukraine has said it will take back Crimea "at all costs", including military means.
