Recently, in the community of young people who love taking photos, the trend of hunting for iPhone 5 suddenly appeared. Although the pictures taken by iPhone 5 are not very sharp, have high blur and are of much lower quality than modern "new generation" phones, but that "old" feature is what attracts young people to "follow the trend" of buying iPhone 5.
Nguyen Gia Linh (born 2002, Hanoi ) said that after seeing her friends on social networks sharing retro-themed photos, she immediately fell in love at first sight and decided to buy an iPhone 5 in early November. Linh easily searched for the phone on e-commerce platforms and bought a fairly new one for 600,000 VND, with full accessories from charger to case. After checking the overall and seeing that the camera was still working well, she felt secure using the phone to take photos every day.
With a love for antiques, Vo Hoang Bao Anh (born 2001, HCMC) also bought an iPhone 5 from a seller in a Facebook group for 470,000 VND, a cheap price. She uses the phone to record her outings and coffee dates with friends.
“I like blurry, slightly yellow photos because they bring back a nostalgic feeling like high school,” Bao Anh said.
Besides taking photos, Bao Anh uses her iPhone 5 as a way to "detox" from social media. The device is slow and not as smooth as newer phones, but for Bao Anh, that slows down her life and helps her become less dependent on her smartphone.

The increased demand for iPhone 5 has also made the used phone market more vibrant. Mr. Le Ngoc Thach (born 1991, Lam Dong ) - a used phone trader and administrator of 16 phone selling groups on Facebook said that iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s are currently one of his best-selling models.
Near Tet, the number of customers aged 18-25 looking to buy iPhone 5 increased, on average he sold 100-150 units per month. On peak days, customers asked to buy the phone but he had no more stock to sell.
When it was first released, the iPhone 5 cost about 20 million VND, but now used devices cost only 300,000 - 400,000 VND, so spending money to own a nostalgic photography item does not make young people hesitate.
“If you take an iPhone 16 or 17 to a coffee shop, that is... too normal. But when taking an old iPhone to take pictures, many young people see it as a unique style,” said Mr. Thach.

Before the trend of buying iPhone 5 for photography became widespread, young people also hunted for and bought old digital cameras, because these devices also produced slightly grainy photos, giving off a nostalgic feel.
