In reality, the amount of cash in circulation increases significantly as Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches. Cash is not only used for buying and selling, spending, paying salaries and Tet bonuses, but is also associated with traditional customs and practices such as giving lucky money, visiting temples, and offering prayers at the beginning of the year. In particular, the demand for exchanging small denominations of money heats up daily as Tet draws near.

Recognizing this pattern, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Region 8 promptly directed credit institutions in Ha Tinh province to proactively monitor cash inflows and outflows; develop plans for reserves, regulation, and supply of money appropriately, in order to fully and promptly meet the needs of the economy and the people.
At Agribank's Ha Tinh II Branch, the demand for small denomination banknotes from individuals and businesses has increased by more than 50% compared to normal days. To avoid a shortage of cash, especially small denominations, the branch proactively developed a reserve plan in advance and also requested the State Bank of Vietnam's Region 8 to supply sufficient cash with an appropriate denomination structure.
According to the plan, the total cash available for transactions at Agribank Ha Tinh II Branch currently reaches approximately 100 billion VND per day, nearly double the average daily amount (normally 50-60 billion VND per day). Previously, the branch prioritized stockpiling denominations from 2,000 VND to 50,000 VND to meet the needs of people for currency exchange, payments, and giving lucky money.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha – Deputy Head of Accounting and Treasury Department (Agribank Ha Tinh II Branch) said: "Based on forecasts of actual demand, the bank has planned to prepare sufficient denominations of banknotes and proactively replenish cash for all 28 ATMs in the province. Not only ensuring sufficient cash, the unit has also increased staffing, ready to serve customers during peak days, to ensure all transactions are smooth, safe, and convenient."

Similarly, Vietcombank's Ha Tinh branch is also implementing comprehensive solutions to ensure sufficient cash supply for the economy during the Tet holiday. At its transaction counters and ATMs, the bank is providing a variety of banknote denominations to flexibly meet the needs of different customer groups.
For customers requiring large cash withdrawals, Vietcombank Ha Tinh Branch proactively works with and registers with the State Bank of Vietnam Region 8 to ensure timely service and avoid congestion. Notably, in addition to the traditional ATM system, the branch has installed self-service cash deposit machines at many transaction offices, allowing customers to proactively deposit and transfer money, reducing the pressure of cash replenishment and improving operational efficiency during peak periods.

From a management perspective, the State Bank of Vietnam's Region 8 plays a central role in regulating and balancing cash flow in the area. Over the past period, the unit has proactively developed a scientific and rational cash collection and disbursement plan, creating favorable conditions for credit institutions and the State Treasury in depositing and withdrawing money, especially during the peak period of the Lunar New Year.
The State Bank of Vietnam's Region 8 also ensures the adequate and timely supply of cash in circulation, with an appropriate denomination structure, to serve the payment of salaries, bonuses, goods, and daily living expenses of the people.
According to Ms. Vu Thi Nhan, Head of the Currency and Treasury Department (State Bank of Vietnam Region 8): On January 9, 2026, the Currency Issuance and Treasury Department of the State Bank of Vietnam issued document No. 23/PHKQ2 regarding meeting cash demand during the 2026 Lunar New Year. The document requested regional branches of the State Bank of Vietnam to closely monitor cash inflows and outflows, proactively balance cash sources in their respective areas, and promptly inform and coordinate with the Currency Issuance and Treasury Department to arrange personnel and transportation for cash when necessary. In implementing this directive, the State Bank of Vietnam Region 8 continues to closely monitor the actual situation in Ha Tinh province, ready to deploy solutions to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient supply of cash in all situations.

Overall, the synchronized and effective involvement of credit institutions in Ha Tinh and the coordinating role of the State Bank of Vietnam's Region 8 have demonstrated flexible and proactive monetary management capabilities in the face of seasonal fluctuations. When the flow of money is maintained smoothly, the local economy has better conditions to operate efficiently and effectively, serving the transaction needs of businesses and people in the area.
