In early 2025, at Tan Thanh High School, the education sector organized a launching ceremony for the movement "Tet tree planting to forever remember Uncle Ho" in the whole province, opening a series of activities to plant and protect forests in the new year. More than 40 shade trees and ornamental trees were planted by teachers, students and delegates in the campus, creating a green highlight for the school space. Mr. Ngo Bang Nga, Principal of the school shared: At the launching ceremony, the school focused on promoting the value of trees and forests, helping students understand that this is not a movement activity, but comes from responsibility for the living environment. Tree planting and care activities are maintained annually, associated with the on-site volunteer movement of the youth union branches, contributing to forming the habit of civilized behavior towards the environment.
The whole province currently has about 580,000 hectares of forest land, with a coverage rate of over 64%. This achievement goes hand in hand with great responsibility in forest management and protection. Every year, the Department of Education and Training launches the movement "Tet tree planting to forever remember Uncle Ho" in the whole sector; requiring schools to choose suitable tree varieties to plant, creating a green - clean - beautiful landscape. Currently, the whole province has 647 schools, of which over 99% have built campuses according to the "school - park" model. Each class and each team is assigned to be in charge of a part of the campus; taking care of, watering trees, and cleaning are included in the daily schedule, creating a routine to preserve green space.
Along with that, many schools organize for students to learn the names, ecological characteristics and values of each tree species. The activities of planting, caring for and monitoring the growth of trees become practical experiences, helping students understand more deeply the relationship between humans and nature, thereby nurturing love and awareness of forest protection.
In the current general education program, forest protection content is flexibly integrated into subjects: Geography, Biology, Civic Education and local educational materials. Not only stopping at theory, many schools organize visits to nurseries, coordinate with forest rangers to propagate forest fire prevention and fighting and forest protection patrol work. Visual lessons on flash floods, landslides, land and water resource depletion, etc. help students understand more deeply the role of forests in people's livelihoods and sustainable development.
From these methods, many creative models have been formed. A typical example is the project "Adopt a tree" of students of Binh Gia High School. Each group of students "adopts" a tree, keeps a logbook, and directly cares for and protects the tree. Hoang Minh Anh, class 12A, said: "When I personally take care of the tree, I understand that protecting and developing the forest is hard work, requiring perseverance."
In boarding and semi-boarding schools for ethnic minorities, forest protection education is even more practical, because the students are mainly ethnic minority children, many of whose families are directly connected to the forest. When the school coordinates with forest rangers and commune authorities to promote forest fire prevention and control, guide sustainable farming, and sign a commitment not to destroy forests, the students become a bridge to convey the message of forest protection to their families and the community. Many students proactively remind people not to burn fields during the dry season and participate in clearing vegetation to prevent forest fires.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, each year, students in the area participate in planting over 50,000 new trees and flowers inside and outside the school campus. The shade gradually covers the school yard, the colorful flower beds in the sunny and windy border area are clear evidence of the positive change from awareness to action. Through that, it can be seen that when each student becomes a "young propagandist", spreading the awareness of forest protection to their family and community, the belief in a sustainable green environment will continue to be nurtured.
