The border commune of Ia Dom holds a particularly important strategic position in terms of national defense and security, as well as socio-economic development. Throughout its development, the Party Committee, government, and people of the commune have consistently recognized that maintaining national defense and security is a prerequisite and a solid foundation for attracting investment, developing production, ensuring social welfare, and improving the lives of the people.

Over the years, the commune has closely coordinated with the Border Guard forces stationed in the area, strengthening patrols and controls to firmly protect territorial sovereignty and maintain political security and social order.
The people's national defense posture, linked with the people's security posture, has been strengthened; the movement of "All People Protecting National Security" has developed extensively; and self-governing models for border areas, boundary markers, and people's security teams are operating effectively. This stable environment has created confidence for businesses and people to invest, produce, and conduct business with peace of mind.
Building on a solid foundation of national defense and security, Ia Dom commune proactively coordinates with the Gia Lai Provincial Economic Zone Management Board to promote investment, publicize the potential and advantages of the border area; and actively calls on businesses from within and outside the province to survey and explore investment opportunities.
Priority areas include high-tech agriculture, agricultural product processing, border trade and services, and infrastructure development to support trade. The agricultural economy is gradually shifting towards commodity production, increasing added value. The entire commune has 5 OCOP 3-star products; supply chains for durian and bird's nest have been formed, opening up a sustainable path forward.
Simultaneously, the local authorities are intensifying efforts to encourage individual business households to develop into enterprises, creating momentum for expanding production scale, improving management capacity, and contributing to the budget.
The results show a remarkable transformation: from an area with annual budget revenue of less than 1 billion VND, the situation has now changed positively. As of January 31, 2026, total budget revenue in the area (excluding land use revenue) reached over 8 billion VND, exceeding the assigned target. This is an important milestone, reflecting the new dynamism of the Ia Dom border economy.
With a natural area of 14,562 hectares, of which 13,776.17 hectares are agricultural land, Ia Dom has great potential for developing commercial agriculture. The area planted with key crops reaches 10,831.47 hectares, including high-economic-value crops such as rubber, cashew, coffee, and fruit trees.

The locality has enormous potential for development. While long-term industrial crops such as rubber, coffee, and cashew nuts occupy a high percentage of the land, the application of science and technology, mechanization, the conversion to high-yield varieties, and value chain linkages still have significant untapped potential. With comprehensive investment, linking production with processing and stable consumption, added value will be significantly increased.
In particular, approximately 1,700 hectares of land have been removed from the planning of the three types of forests. If managed and used properly by local authorities, this would be a huge resource for planning concentrated production areas, attracting businesses to invest in high-tech agriculture, concentrated livestock farming, or projects suitable for the conditions of the border region. When effectively utilized, this land fund would become a powerful driving force for economic growth and create more jobs for the people.
Along with economic development, social welfare has always been a top priority for Ia Dom commune. The consistent viewpoint of the locality is that economic development must be linked to caring for the people's lives, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The entire commune currently has 2,200 households with 8,686 inhabitants; of which ethnic minorities account for 691 households with 3,072 inhabitants, living in 7 villages. Previously, people's lives mainly depended on agricultural production, heavily dependent on the weather; transportation infrastructure was still difficult; and the poverty rate was high.

To date, 100% of the main roads connecting communes and villages have been paved; rural roads have been concreted, facilitating the mechanization of production; houses are well-maintained, and the rural landscape is green, clean, and beautiful.
By the end of 2025, the average per capita income of the commune will reach 55 million VND/year; the poverty rate will decrease to 1.59%; 100% of the people will have access to clean water; and the insurance coverage rate will increase…
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026 (Year of the Horse), the commune actively mobilized philanthropists, businesses, organizations, and individuals to join hands in caring for the poor, policy beneficiary families, and those in difficult circumstances during Tet, with 1,309 gift packages (total value of over 1.2 billion VND).
These heartfelt gifts not only have material value but also demonstrate the spirit of solidarity and sharing in the border regions of the Fatherland, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the leadership of the Party and the administration of the local government.

The experience in Ia Dom commune clearly affirms that a strong national defense and security is the foundation for economic development; economic growth is a condition for enhancing national defense capabilities; and guaranteed social welfare strengthens the people's trust and support. The harmonious combination of the three pillars: national defense and security, economic development, and social welfare is creating a new face for the border commune of Ia Dom.
In the coming period, the locality will continue to leverage its advantages, effectively exploit its land potential, attract investment, and improve the quality of its human resources; while maintaining political stability and social order and security.
With a peaceful border, a thriving economy, and an improved standard of living for the people, Ia Dom will continue to develop sustainably, deserving its reputation as a strong "bulwark" and a shining economic light on the front lines of the Fatherland.
