According to Ms. Ksor Blin, she and Mr. Ro Mah Pol started their family in 2009. For many years, the couple worked hard, but due to lack of knowledge and capital for production and livestock raising, hunger and poverty continued to haunt them. In 2015, the couple received vocational training from the 74th Military Economic Group, 15th Army Corps, and were hired as workers. They were given breeding cows, supported in building barns, and instructed in livestock raising techniques, so they had a stable income and gradually escaped poverty.

The family of Mr. Ksor Hlơch and his wife, Ms. Rơ Mah Pen, a Gia Rai ethnic, residing in Kom Ngo village, Ia Chia commune, also escaped poverty thanks to the effective support of Economic-Defense Group 74. Mr. Ksor Hlơch confidently said: “My family also received a breeding cow from the unit in 2024, and now the breeding cow has given birth to a calf. My wife and I will take care of the breeding cow given by the unit to be healthy, give birth to many calves, create capital for economic development, and raise our children to study.”
Looking at her husband with happy eyes, Ms. Ro Mah Pen continued: “The 74th Economic-Defense Group is closely connected with the people, loves them, understands them and always finds ways to help and support them in economic development, building a prosperous and happy life. Many ethnic minority households are supported with housing, cows, seedlings, and participate in the unit's socio-economic development models, gradually changing their thinking and ways of doing things, and living a better life.”
Colonel Dau Thien Luong, Head of the 74th Economic-Defense Group, said: The 74th Economic-Defense Group and its predecessors were present in the border area of Gia Lai province right after the liberation of the South in 1975. Since then, generations of officers and soldiers of the unit have been closely associated with the people, reclaiming and opening up land, rebuilding the land heavily devastated by war and becoming a solid "support" for the people. With the viewpoint of "helping the people is helping yourself", the 74th Economic-Defense Group has had many effective models, typically: "Connecting households" - one of the "Skilled Civil Affairs" models of the 15th Army Corps, which has been highly appreciated by local Party committees and authorities.
Currently, the 74th Economic-Defense Group is stationed and carries out its tasks in 26 villages, hamlets, and residential groups in 6 communes of Gia Lai province, including two border communes of Ia O and Ia Chia, where the people are mainly ethnic minorities. Every year, the unit not only prioritizes recruiting local people to work as workers, providing vocational training, instructing on planting and caring techniques for industrial crops, rice, and livestock, but also invests tens of billions of VND in supporting crop failures, giving gifts, and giving seedlings and livestock.
Just counting Project 3 - Sub-project 3 "Socio-economic development of the army model associated with the local people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas", from 2022 to now, Economic-Defense Group 74 has presented people with 125 breeding cows with a total cost of more than 2.2 billion VND from the state budget, counterpart funds of the unit and households. With specific actions, Economic-Defense Group 74 has contributed to creating livelihoods and increasing income for many households to escape poverty sustainably, have a stable and prosperous life; thereby, building a solid "people's heart position".
