Untangling the supply and demand bottlenecks in the technology sector.

On the morning of May 20th, in Hanoi, the Department of Innovation and the Department of Information and Statistics under the Ministry of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, organized a workshop titled "Promoting Technology Supply and Demand Connection" within the framework of Techmart Vietnam 2026.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Innovation Department ( Ministry of Science and Technology ), said that in the context of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation increasingly playing a driving role in growth, promoting technology transfer and commercialization of research results has become particularly important.

According to Ms. Ha, Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo emphasized the need for close integration between research activities and production, business, and social life, while promoting linkages between stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem.

However, the reality is that the gap between technology supply and application demand remains quite large. Many businesses struggle to find suitable technologies, while universities, colleges, and research organizations also lack the resources to effectively connect with the market.

According to the head of the Innovation Department, the Ministry of Science and Technology has continued to improve the legal framework for technology transfer, including amending the Law on Technology Transfer and issuing Decree 101 guiding its implementation. At the same time, the science and technology exchange platform is also being strengthened to enhance connectivity efficiency.

Currently, there are 20 science and technology exchange platforms nationwide, of which the Vietnam Science and Technology Exchange has connected data with 19 other platforms and exchanges across the country. This is considered a platform that supports businesses, localities, and organizations in easily accessing, searching for information, and connecting with technology owners.

The highlight of the workshop was the announcement by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology of a list of 112 technologies, solutions, and research results ready for transfer, and the uploading of this data to the Vietnam Science and Technology Exchange Platform.

The list includes 112 technologies ready for transfer in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, environmental technology, agriculture, fisheries, new materials, aerospace technology, biotechnology, and smart devices.

112 technologies at TRL 6 or higher are the results of research conducted by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology during the 2021-2025 period.

According to Associate Professor Phan Tien Dung, Head of the Science and Technology Committee of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, many technologies have reached a high level of readiness and can be immediately deployed in production and management practices.

Some research areas receiving significant attention include the GPTViet big language model for Vietnamese; AI and IoT platforms for industry and management; intelligent systems for agriculture and irrigation; and UAV, sensor, and remote sensing solutions for monitoring resources, the environment, and responding to climate change.

Mr. Phan Tien Dung added that many research results from the Academy have been transferred to businesses and localities in fields such as biotechnology, environment, materials, information technology, remote sensing, and high-tech agriculture. Notably, mastering and preparing to operate the LOTUSat-1 satellite and the Earth observation technology system is considered a significant step forward for Vietnam in the field of space technology.

"The Institute aims to promote connections between research institutes, businesses, and localities; and to coordinate with relevant agencies to gradually introduce suitable technologies to the Vietnam Science and Technology Exchange and other technology supply-demand platforms. Through this, we will strengthen the link between research, application, and technology transfer to serve the socio-economic development of the country," Mr. Dung expressed.

At the conference, scientists also presented many outstanding research results from the 2021-2025 period, such as the Marketing-Expro system to support businesses in promoting export products and preparations from passion fruit seeds for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

From a business perspective, many believe that the current process of adopting technology still faces numerous obstacles, especially for local and traditional businesses. A representative from Dai Phu An Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company stated that the company is struggling to find suitable technology due to high transfer costs, while accessing skilled technology personnel and consulting experts is also not easy.

Experts and intermediary organizations recommend further improving mechanisms for supporting technology connection, consultation, and evaluation; building a standardized data system on technology needs; and developing a network of specialized consultants for each industry and sector.
