Contribute to the countryside

QTO - After a period of implementing the new rural construction program (NRDC), many rural areas in the province have taken on a new look. Every inch of land, every concrete road, every fertile field today is built not only by the state budget but also by the hearts, efforts and silent contributions of many people, especially farmer members. They are the ones who create the appearance of today's countryside.

When farmers are the subject

Early in the morning, when the fog still covers the hillsides, the winding concrete road through Co Liem village, Kim Phu commune appears in the light mist, leading past the solid houses. Looking at the clean, airy village road, few people would think that before it was just a small, bumpy path, muddy in the rainy season, dusty in the dry season. To have a new road, the villagers voluntarily donated thousands of square meters of land and hundreds of working days. And the person who initiated that change was Mr. Cao Dinh Than (born in 1967).

When the commune started implementing the New Rural Development Program, Mr. Than was one of the first people to voluntarily donate land, cut down fences, and contribute to paving the road. He did not say much, just quietly removed the fence, cut down the acacia trees that were ready to be harvested, and then personally dismantled the buffalo pen to donate more than 70 square meters of residential land and 400 square meters of production land.

“At first I felt sorry, but thinking back, my children and grandchildren can travel conveniently and the village is more spacious, so I don't hesitate,” Mr. Than said.

Not only did he set an example, he also actively explained, mobilized, and persuaded people to join hands. Following Mr. Than's example, dozens of other households in the village also voluntarily followed suit. The movement spread like that. Some contributed working days, some contributed materials, and some donated land.

According to Mr. Thai Van Chung, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Kim Phu commune, the pioneering and exemplary spirit of farmers like Mr. Than has contributed to the movement of building new rural areas in the locality. Thanks to the joint efforts of the people, Co Liem today has "changed its appearance": Village roads and alleys are clean and beautiful, the material and spiritual life of the people has improved significantly, and the village and neighborhood relationships are stronger...

Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Tran Tien Sy said: Co Liem village, Kim Phu commune is just one of hundreds of examples in the province. The success of the New Rural Development Program today is thanks to the promotion of the role of the people, those who truly consider their homeland as a common home to build together. People donate land to build cultural houses, people contribute to planting flower roads, people change production models, boldly learn new techniques to increase productivity, protect the environment... It is these ordinary people who are the "catalysts" that contribute to changing the face of many villages.

The seeds that ignite community power

In the New Rural Development movement, strength comes not only from policies and guidelines but also from people who know how to inspire confidence and lead the community to action. In Quang Tri , dedicated farmers and association cadres who are persistent in village and commune work have become important nuclei to keep the New Rural Development movement sustainable and widespread.

In Dong Le commune, Mr. Phung Huu Dung (born in 1963), Head of the Farmers' Association of Ba Tam village, is one of those people. At the age of 62, Mr. Dung is still diligently working for the village and the association. Not only is he exemplary in production, applying scientific and technical advances in cultivation and animal husbandry, he also actively mobilizes and persuades people to join hands in building the new rural areas. With a thin figure and tanned skin, he often appears in all community activities, sometimes cleaning village roads and alleys with people, sometimes mobilizing each household to donate land, contribute to making flower roads, building reasonable barns, making drainage ditches to prevent flooding in the rainy season...

Mr. Dung’s dedication and prestige have aroused the spirit of solidarity in the community. From a few initial flower routes, now the whole village is full of colors, becoming a bright spot in the “bright-green-clean-beautiful” movement. Not stopping there, Mr. Dung also mobilized members to renovate mixed gardens, change the structure of crops and livestock, helping many households escape poverty.

Also a person who has contributed a lot to the New Rural Development Program, Ms. Duong Thi Hien (born in 1981), Director of Hien Thuan Starch Production, Trading and Service Cooperative (Truong Phu Commune) is always mentioned by the people with trust and admiration. With the thought that "New Rural Development must start from changing production thinking", she has invested in modern machinery, improved the processing process, and registered the Hien Thuan starch product brand.

Thanks to her taking the lead in purchasing products, providing technical guidance, and organizing chain production, the area of turmeric and cassava cultivation in the commune has increased significantly, contributing significantly to increasing people's income. Starting from a small-scale production household, she has risen to become the owner of a collective economic model, opening a new direction for local agricultural products and creating sustainable livelihoods for many rural workers.

Not only is she good at economics, Ms. Hien is also one of the typical examples actively contributing to the commune's new rural construction movement. When the locality launched the road construction campaign, she donated more than 200 square meters of garden land, contributed tens of millions of VND and directly mobilized other households to participate. She also proactively supported 50 trash cans for the village to implement environmental criteria, contributing to creating a clean and beautiful landscape, raising awareness of maintaining public hygiene in each family.

Not stopping there, she also actively participates in humanitarian and charitable activities; participates in beautifying residential areas, launching the construction of flower streets, contributing to building Xuan Lai village into a model residential area of Truong Phu commune.

“Ms. Hien is a person who dares to think, dares to do, always linking economic development with the common interests of the community. Not only does she help farmers have jobs and increase their income, she also actively contributes to the New Rural Development movement, something that not everyone can do,” said Huynh Van Loi, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Truong Phu Commune.

From farmers like Mr. Cao Dinh Than, Mr. Phung Huu Dung, Ms. Duong Thi Hien, the New Rural Development movement in localities has had more clear changes. They are the ones who turn the movement into concrete actions, turning each road, canal, garden, and product into the result of trust and consensus.
