According to the An Giang Department of Education and Training, the province currently has over 53,000 ninth-grade students. The Department will organize the entrance exam for tenth-grade high school (THPT) for the 2026-2027 school year in a single exam session for all high schools in the province that conduct entrance exams, taking place on June 2nd and 3rd.

The student placement rate into lower secondary schools (junior high schools) and upper secondary schools (high schools), including public high schools and multi-level schools (collectively referred to as schools with upper secondary levels), is 70% of the number of students graduating from lower secondary school. For specialized high schools and ethnic boarding high schools, enrollment is based on assigned quotas. The remaining 30% of lower secondary school graduates will be streamed into vocational training, continuing education, vocational secondary schools, and other options.

For admission to public high schools and ethnic boarding high schools, students take three compulsory subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and English. For admission to specialized high schools, students take four subjects: three compulsory subjects and one specialized subject they have registered for, which can be one of the following: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, or English. The total admission score for specialized schools is the sum of the scores in Literature, Mathematics, English, and the score in the specialized subject (the specialized subject score is multiplied by a factor of 2).

In the 2025-2026 school year, Hung Vuong Secondary School in Rach Gia Ward will have 324 ninth-grade students. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Doan, the principal of Hung Vuong Secondary School, stated that the school focuses on thoroughly checking ninth-grade students' records from the beginning of the school year to promptly correct, supplement, and complete their files, ensuring they meet the requirements for junior high school graduation and admission to tenth grade. The school prioritizes advising and guiding students in choosing schools that match their academic abilities, helping them determine whether to aim for specialized high schools or other public high schools. The school implements a clear review plan, allocating additional review sessions to support students. Teachers guide students in creating their own study schedules at home and remind them to study. Students are also introduced to and familiarized with different exam question types to build their confidence when taking exams.

“The school regularly encourages students to reduce stress. For parents, the school strengthens connection and sharing, advising parents to understand their children's true aspirations and abilities, and to pay attention to their daily routines and safe transportation arrangements. Parents should avoid imposing their will or creating pressure on students,” Ms. Doan said.

Having achieved excellent academic results for many consecutive years, Le Duong Ngoc Hai, a 9th-grade student from Hung Vuong Secondary School, chose to apply to Nguyen Trung Truc 1 High School in Rach Gia Ward. Hai shared that initially, she planned to apply to Huynh Man Dat Specialized High School, but after careful consideration, she chose Nguyen Trung Truc 1 High School because she felt it suited her abilities and reduced the pressure on her. “I am very fortunate that my parents always respect my school choice and remind me to get adequate rest. To achieve good results in this exam, I have a specific study plan for math, literature, and English, and I study very seriously and diligently,” Hai said.

Passionate about literature, Tran Nguyen Hong Anh, a 9th-grade student from Hung Vuong Secondary School, plans to apply to the specialized literature class at Huynh Man Dat High School for the Gifted. Besides her studies, Hong Anh reads a book daily, noting down her thoughts to expand her vocabulary and improve her writing skills, while also actively reviewing math and English. “Before this important and highly competitive exam, I feel quite anxious. I will organize my study plan scientifically and study seriously to achieve good results,” Hong Anh shared.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Thu Minh, Head of the Educational Psychology Department, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Kien Giang College of Education, before important exams, students often worry about their abilities and the results of the upcoming exams; stress and pressure come from studying and the expectations of their parents, as well as their own expectations to achieve their goals. Consequently, they sometimes pay less attention to their diet, which in the long run leads to poor health and an inability to maintain focused study time for extended periods. Furthermore, students spending too much time concentrating on studying and not getting enough sleep also negatively impacts their health.

“During this time, children need their families to take care of their meals, ensuring they are nutritious and eaten on time. Parents need to pay attention to their children's study schedules to ensure a balance between studying and resting to regenerate energy, avoid prolonged fatigue, and remind them not to stay up late. Parents should focus their time on their children during this period, always being their companions by observing and listening to them more. At the same time, encourage them to set their own goals, and avoid imposing parental expectations, which can inadvertently create heavy pressure, affecting their psychology, health, and academic results,” said Ms. Truong Thi Thu Minh.
