As the largest wholesale market for fresh flowers in the capital, Quang An flower market is almost "sleepless" these days. Flowers from major growing regions in the North and imported goods are continuously gathered and distributed to local markets and flower shops throughout Hanoi .
On the evening of February 12th (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month), thousands of people, small traders, and flower shop owners gathered here. The sudden increase in the number of motorbikes, cars, and small trucks caused traffic congestion on many roads around the market. At times, moving further into the market required inching forward meter by meter.

This year, in addition to familiar flower varieties, the market features many new and unusual types of flowers, transported by air. However, the most popular items remain traditional flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year). Lilies, gladioli, peach blossoms, and magnolias still account for the majority of unsold stock.

As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, a price increase for flowers is unavoidable. Gladiolus flowers, which normally cost 30,000-40,000 VND per 10 stems, have now risen to 100,000-140,000 VND per 10 stems. Multicolored lilies, a popular choice, have also seen a price jump from 200,000-300,000 VND per 10 stems to 400,000-900,000 VND per 10 stems, depending on the type and quality.

Other types of flowers, such as snowdrops, which have been popular in recent years and normally cost only about 70,000 - 90,000 VND per bunch, have now increased to 150,000 - 200,000 VND per bunch.

Large magnolia branches, reaching head height, with beautiful shapes and evenly distributed buds, are being offered for sale at 1.7 - 2 million VND per branch, with particularly beautiful branches potentially fetching several million VND.

This year, the prices of roses and chrysanthemums have seen a slightly smaller increase. Many vendors consider the price of peach blossoms to be "reasonable." Small peach branches for altars are commonly priced from 100,000 to 120,000 VND per branch, higher than before but not dramatically so. Larger branches of peach blossoms, including those shaped and styled, range in price from 600,000 VND to 2 million VND, depending on their shape and bloom.

According to vendors, although the prices of many types of flowers have increased slightly, they are still within an acceptable range. However, the market is so crowded that buyers don't have time to choose carefully as they normally would.

"You have to be quick, quick-eyed; if you see something beautiful, grab it immediately. If you hesitate, someone else will buy it," a flower shop owner shared.

Many small traders predict that flower prices will continue to rise as Tet approaches. "In the final days, it's normal for some types of flowers to not only double but triple in price, and sometimes there's no stock left to sell," one trader affirmed.

As morning approached, Quang An flower market became increasingly bustling. A long line of people flocked to the market to find flowers, creating a dense crowd on the road leading to the market.
