Improve the quality of education
From the 2025-2026 school year, the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day will be officially implemented as a mandatory program for primary school students nationwide. Accordingly, primary schools will teach 2 sessions/day with a maximum of 7 periods/day, each period 35 minutes. Session 1 teaches the main curriculum according to regulations; session 2 is for consolidation and supplementary activities, skills education, experiences, learning about local history and culture, etc.
For junior high school and high school, teaching 2 sessions/day is not mandatory but implemented in places with sufficient conditions. The school arranges a minimum of 5 school days per week, a maximum of 11 sessions/week; each day no more than 7 periods, each period 45 minutes. The content of the 2nd session focuses on three main groups: tutoring for students who have not achieved, nurturing excellent students and reviewing for final exams.
The new highlight is that the Ministry of Education and Training does not rigidly stipulate that the morning is session 1 and the afternoon is session 2; it does not allow alternating between compulsory and optional sections in the same session. Schools are organized flexibly according to actual conditions.
In addition, to ensure fairness and reduce the financial burden on parents, the Ministry stipulates that there is no fee for the second session. Funding is allocated from the local budget, while promoting socialization...

In Hanoi , 100% of primary schools organize 2 sessions/day, which is a great advantage in implementing the mandatory requirement from the 2025-2026 school year. At the secondary level, about 60% of schools are qualified to organize two sessions a day. Currently, many schools have proactively developed plans, surveyed student needs and prepared the conditions.
At the high school level, the number of schools that are qualified to organize two sessions a day is still modest, mainly concentrated in private schools. Schools focus on investing in facilities and designing flexible programs, linked to students' career orientation.

On the eve of the new school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has asked communes, wards and schools to review the conditions of facilities, teaching staff and related factors; at the same time, survey parents' wishes to develop a practical implementation plan, ensuring substance and effectiveness.

Flexible deployment
Ms. Ta Thi Thuan - Principal of Dai Thinh Secondary School (Quang Minh Commune) said: Since the beginning of August 2025, the school has reviewed all facilities, especially functional rooms, and at the same time announced the plan to parents. Based on the wishes of students' families, the school has built flexible content for the second session, including activities on life skills education, career guidance, experience, reading culture, and scientific research.
Ms. Pham Thi Huong Giang - Principal of Giang Vo 2 Secondary School (Giang Vo Ward) said that the school and related units are completing the system of classrooms, subject rooms, living areas, multi-purpose halls, dining rooms... to ensure sufficient conditions for 100% of students to study 2 sessions/day with a diverse program.
According to Ms. Hoang Minh Hang - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Hoan Kiem Ward (Hanoi), from the 2025-2026 school year, Hoan Kiem Ward will implement teaching 2 sessions/day in all schools. This is expected to improve the quality of education in the area.
Implementing the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training on organizing 2 sessions/day from the 2025-2026 school year, schools in the ward have prepared adequate facilities and teaching staff; publicized plans, content, and timetables on the school's website.
When building a 2-session/day teaching plan, ensure that the educational content is reasonably distributed between, helping students complete their learning tasks and the program requirements. At the same time, create conditions for students to study elective subjects and participate in educational activities to achieve the goal of comprehensive education.
The important issue related to teaching 2 sessions/day is organizing safe meals for boarding students. Schools develop plans to organize boarding students with content and form suitable to actual conditions, with the agreement and voluntariness of students and parents and following the guidance of the Hanoi City Food Safety Steering Committee.
The draft action program of the Party Central Committee to implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress clearly states the task of building a modern national education system on par with the region and the world, including organizing two-session teaching/day for general education.
