This period is considered crucial for many types of Tet flowers. Just one severe cold spell or prolonged rain can delay blooming or cause the flowers to develop at the wrong time, directly affecting the income of growers.

Ms. Tran Thi Mai, a long-time flower grower in Tay Tuu ward, said that this year's prolonged unfavorable weather has caused many difficulties for production. "Since the beginning of the year, there have been continuous storms and natural disasters, and my family has lost several crop cycles. We only hope to recoup some of our losses closer to Tet (Lunar New Year), so no matter how cold it is, we have to go to the fields to take care of the flowers," Ms. Mai said.

According to Ms. Mai, during periods of intense cold, flower growers must closely monitor plant growth, adjust irrigation levels, and provide appropriate coverings to prevent damage to the flowers. "Tet flowers are the main source of income for the entire year; neglecting them for even a day is unsettling," she added.

Not far away, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (52 years old) was inspecting each flower bed, carefully examining the young shoots. He said that this is the batch of flowers for year-end consumption, so every step must be done carefully. "This is the most important season of the year. Each flower bud must be monitored regularly, and any abnormalities must be dealt with immediately," Mr. Hung said.

According to Mr. Hung, the cold weather and drizzle make caring for the flowers much more difficult than usual. However, flower growers still have to stay in their fields to ensure the flowers bloom at the right time. "If the flowers bloom too early or too late, it's considered a failure," he said.

Not only are the flower beds for the Lunar New Year being cared for, but the flower fields intended for sale during the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the first lunar month) are also being tended to by the people. Many households said they have to divide their time and effort to both maintain the flowers for Tet and prepare goods for after Tet to ensure income.
